I am considering replacing my 74 gig 7500rpm drive (s)with a new set of150 gig 10,000rpm WD hard drives. I will be using it in a raid configuration. Will there be a noticable improvement in performance? The new drive has a 16mb cache over the 8mb cache of my current drives.

I boot up vista in about 20secs... :) That's the only difference you would probably see... It's not big but it shaves off couple of secs when you load from it

it really wont make a big differance except for load times will be shorted abit, and i beleive you also mean a 7200 rpm drive.

Unless you run them in raid0, the results aren't quite mindblowing.

The biggest difference you will probably be see is it runslouder and hotter then your current drive. Another good drive series to consider is the SeaGate Barracuda 7200.10 Series. Follow Link http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/desktops/barracuda_hard_drives/barracuda_7200.10/ I have the 500GB SATA 3.0GB/sec model and I love it. It has the same 16MB cache as the other one you are looking at. The 7200.10 uses this Perpendicular recording technology, that I won't try to explain here, but you can read about it on the site. It helps boost performance and reduce seek times.

I don't see much of a difference between 10K vs 7200. I have 10K raptor and I think I would've been better off
with another 500GB for half the price I paid for 150GB Raptor.
