Thinking about getting a new monitor and it's either 1440p 144hz GSYNC IPS vs a 4K IPS GSYNC. Not sure what do. Current gaming on a 24 inch 4K IPS Dell.

Is Gsync even worth it?

Gsync is very much worth it especially if you play on sub 100fps and it fluctuates, my old 980ti benefited greatly from it on 1440p, it would be hard to go back to non gsync and the difference is quite apparent vs when I game from tv

If I get a new monitor at all it will have gsync. The question is 4K vs 1440p 144hz? Been playing MKX on 4k and it's hard to go back. The difference is there.

Guess that's more of a personal preference, higher frames at lower res or sharper image at lower frames, the jump may not be as big as it's from say 1080p but it's still there

1080p is a person with moderate eye vision. 1440p is the same person calibrated with glasses. 4K, once again, same person but now with eye laser surgery 20/20 vision.

I've never personally gamed above 60fps... well steady. Hard for me to make judgement but the jump from 30fps to 60 is enormous too. Both are important but which one is on the further end of law of diminishing returns? Maybe it's personal preference but I can't say since I only experienced the latter minus the gsync of course.

1440p 144hz easily. The smoothness vastly outweighs the increased pixel density. 27in at 1440p is already around the sweetspot, no need for Windows scaling and you get a lot of extra desktop space vs 1080.

1440p 144hz is superior to 4K 60hz without a doubt.

@_SKatEDiRt_: It's a monitor and not a TV. 24 inch is fine from this distance and the difference is indeed noticeable. That's why.

I had a similar decision a while ago, I went with 1440p, 144Hz and Gsync. It was the right choice for me.

@GarGx1: That's how I'm leaning too. Not sure if I would pay the extra $100 for gsync though. My current monitor is 144 hz non gsync, and I've never noticed screen tearing or stuttering on it.

Then again, I typically tweak graphics settings until i'm running at least 70 fps minimum. Guess i'll need to go down to a store and see it in action.

@Legend002: Neither, 1440p and 4k are dead.

Get the ASUS ROG Swift PG35VQ or Acer Predator X35 out Q4 2017.

4k HDR and G-Sync, need a 1080Ti minimum though.

That's going to be expensive as ****. Might still get it though and I already plan on getting the OC version of the 1080ti STRIX.

Umm you're getting a 1080 Ti OC model, I think you can afford a high-end monitor.

@GTR12: It's not the question whether I can afford it but rather if it worth the upgrade. Currently I go game on a 4K IPS monitor. The PG27UQ 144hz 4K IPS HDR appears to be $1,200. Not that bad I suppose but that is still $500 more than my KS8000 55 HDR inch TV.

The only way I can show you that the new monitors are outstanding (the PG27UQ has only 384 zones of backlighting, new ones get 512) is by hooking the PC up to the TV and taking screenshots in HDR of ME:A (cant play, only screenshots, as you will notice it ghosting playing at 60fps compared to 144fps.

Then take a screenshot of the monitor, and look at the difference, HDR makes a big difference.

Yes 3440x1440, I don't know why I said 4k, I wasn't thinking. But newer games have been supporting the ultrawide resolution. If you don't like it, then ASUS and Acer will probably be releasing 4k monitors as well in Q4. Now isn't the time to buy a monitor, even the old ones will be discounted soon.

Screen tearing could be no more than the odd flicker and if you're used to it, it'll never bother you as you won't really see it. Go from Gsync back to Vsync (or nothing) and you'll definitely notice it.

Yeah. My KS8000 55' was only $700 USD when I got it. It generally hovers at $920 USD on normal sales. Love this TV to death.

The 27 inch 4K 144hz HDR Gsync was shown off in January. They haven't given us much info since but it's suppose to be released Q3 of this year.

@Legend002: Supposed to be Q3... *knocks on wood*

I don't know why they would release it to be honest, it'll be released with outdated specs, and 3 months later, they release a better model (my opinion).

Instead of that, release a 4k PG27VQ alongside the ultrawide, so people have a choice.

Between those two options, 1440P 144Hz is preferable to me. Unless you have a rig that can drive a 4k 144Hz+ HDR monitor (and the funds for both), or unless you're getting a nice big 4k OLED TV, I think 1440P 144Hz+ is the best sweet spot in terms or PPI and motion clarity.

lol... what? Tons of PC gamers play @ 1440p & 4K including myself.

It depends what type of games you play. If you play lots of online FPS then get 1440p 144hz. If you play more single players games then get 4K and G-Sync is very much worth it.

Umm no, if anything I like to pimp the new upcoming ultrawide 144G-Sync.

But honestly, I don't give a shit about g-sync, HDR is what I care about.

My friend owns a 34" (2560 X 1080) and I can definitely see the quality difference compared to my 1440p panel. You definitely need AA @ 2560 X 1080 compared to my 1440p panel where in most cases I don't even have to use AA since games already look pretty sweet without it.
I think 1440p is a better choice since most games support 16:9 unlike 21:9 and games just look sharper in general on a 1440p panel.

@Legend002: I don't know what to say, to me G-Sync and Freesync are nice, but they will be dead soon due to HDMI 2.1, but HDR is awesome, and is a real tech upgrade.

Upping resolution is meh, they can make 8k, 12k etc and they can increase the Hz to whatever (after 120Hz is pointless IMO), but increasing image quality is always good.

this is what i have https://www.amazon.com/PG279Q-2560x1440-G-SYNC-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B017EVR2VM/ref=sr_1_1?s=instant-video&ie=UTF8&qid=1497015849&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+p279q its sweet and 3k to 4k isnt a big deal and will drop more frames in 4k. gsync is amazing and yes its worth the price tag for sure. if your pc can run it, a 144hz w/gsync or freesync is the way to go. 4k is nice but the fps may drop dramatically while playing certain games. ips vs tn, there isnt a competition there. ips colors are amazing bright, vivid, clear with no distortion, as we didnt get with tn panels. the only thing is you have to mess around with brightness, colors and such cause none of these ips panels are perfect out of the box. ive tried 4 of them before choosing this asus, even a 4k without gsync. running on this flawlessly...i7 7700k,16gbs ddr4,980ti sc,win 10 pro

You could just wait for the SWIFT PG27UQ 27-inch IPS 4K Ultra-HD G-SYNC gaming monitor with 144Hz refresh rate and HDR if you don't wanna compromise. Thought even a 1080ti wont take advantage of the 144hz refresh rate at 4k with modern games.

Don't all electronics get outdated rather quick? By that logic you might as well not bother with PC gaming at all.

@marcl18123: Monitors don't, well top-of-the-range ones don't.

Look at 1080p, that was available from 2000, 17yrs, and its still highly used.

4k and HDR are still new, and 60Hz+ is ~5 years old, the only upcoming trend that could dethrone it is OLED.

Hello, I think you should buy 1440p 144hz GSYNC IPS monitor. 144 Hz monitor is the best for gaming. It provides better screen resolution than any other monitor or provides breathtaking gaming experience.
