Yes, thanks a lot. Now I have a reason to max out my RAM. $75 for a pair of 2GB sticks, the promo takes $12 off, plus free shipping and a $20 rebate to boot.

I've got 4 GB of G.SKILL Ripjaws in my system now (2x2GB). My motherboard is an Asus M4N98TD Evo. If I wanted to add two more 2 GB sticks should I stick with the same model or can I get something cheaper. Can I even do that in my motherboard?

Does 8 gigs of ram make that big of a difference yet as opposed to 4gb?

It's a pretty big difference honestly. If your into PC gaming 8G of ram opposed to 4G makes a noticable difference

If you actually use 4gigs of memory or more while running apps otherwise the difference is nada.

Does anyone know how the sandybridge utilizes ram? Does it need all the mhz found in the expensive rams for overclocking or are low timings with lower mhz better if I were on a budget?

Depends on your computer's workload. If you're running 64-bit, it won't hurt (Vista/7 will find a use for it). If you're running plenty of background jobs (F@H, Freenet, etc.) or are into RTS's and other memory-intensive games (to include most recent games), then it should provide a cushion against disk thrashing.

That may be true in the 32-bit world where 4GB is the general limit (unless you turn PAE on), but 64-bit Vista and/or Win7 will likely find a use for it (or you will with additional app windows open or services running).

So then, would you rather go $70 for 4 more gigs of ram or $130 for an SSD? Which do you consider the better upgrade?

If your goin to buy an SSD I would spend seventy more bucks on a OCZ Vertex2 80g and that wont become outdated for a while.

sort of 6gb does certainly and 4-8 oh yeah but in the overall picture of things 6-8gb is small and afer 8gb preformance drops off stupid hard.

Just from a personal experience when added new rams I tested from 2gb to 3gb to 4gb and only found 2gb to 3gb that actually made a difference, because I was actually using 2.xgigs of ram while adding more made no difference to me. Simply saying more isnt always better unless you actually use it. I still sit around under 3gigs of usage while gaming. The other user can buy an ssd now and make an actual difference on the overall performance more so than adding ram right now.

Can anyone explain dual channel to me? I have 4 (2x2) GB of DDR3 RAM right now and they are in the correct slots, but what happens if I put in two more. I'm thinking about adding in four more GBs to bring my total to 8 GBs but I want to make sure I've got the correct thinking here.

You''ll still be in dual channel if you add 2 more, 2 gigs.

I went for a pair of PNYs because they had 4-4-4-12 DDR2 timings.

I'd like to buy another 4GB of RAM that is identical to the one I have but it also happens to be out of stock. Signs point to "NO" for me on this one.
