My monitor, the Samsung Syncmaster 226Bw, says that it displays at a native resolution of 1680x1050 but when i set it to that resolution the picture doesnt fit inside the screen. I have an ATI Radeon X850 gfx card and it has the most recent driver. I am using VGA cables to connect from my PC to my monitor. I currently have it set to 1360x1024 because that is the largest resolution that seems to fit. Anyone have any ideas to why this is not working.

funny that you mention that (yes i have that monitor and no i don't have that problem when using my pc with a 9800gt) but on my 360 with the new NXE update they added 1650x1080 support and the  screen is now letter box in that resuoltion...(because 30 pixels r missing on the top and botton 1680 to 1650 is a 30 diff eh) but mabe your resolution you are setting ur card to is actually 1650 and not 1680. is that the case?

I also get the same prob when using my 360 with the letterbox bars, and im sure i have the resolution set to 1680 not 1650. i downloaded the driver for the monitor and now i can set it to 1600x1200 without it going off screen but it just doesnt look right.

i have the LG flatron l227wtg it works like a champ. resolution works perfect. i dont know why you are experiencing this... i can only recommend one thing, uninstal your drivers, and do a clean install of the most current ones... that or maybe get a better videocard.

are you sure you have the lastest drivers make sure to check the ati website.

also the problem with the 360 is it supports 1680x1050 but only at 16:9 aspect ratio most computer monitors are 16:10 hence the inch of black at the top and bottom of the screen

does the x850 support 1680x1050? I have a 226bw set to that resolution with a 3870 and have no problems. I cant find exact resolution support for that card. But the x850xt does not support 1680x1050. Just the next closest, 1600x1200, 1024x768, and 1280x1024

Hmm, on the box for my video card it doesnt say it supports the 1680x1050 resolution, i suppose that is what the problem is. Is there any possible way to make it support this resolution with software? Kinda like how the xbox update made the resolution availiable?

Thanks in advance

Is the refresh rate set too high? When that happens you're limited to lower resolutions.

Those 2 suggestions are pointless. Your video card doesnt support outputting at that resolution. What type of cable you use or your refresh rate wont matter. The card flat-out just doesnt support it. I dont know of any way to get it to either. I dont know if its a hardware limitation or a driver limitation.
