Hey guys, I am choosing a monitor size for my new pc but the problem is I am not sure how much of a quality difference there is between 1680x1050 on a 22 inch monitor and 1920x1200 on a 24 inch one. Purely for gaming would I miss out on that much if I went with the 22 one?

Alot of game require sli/crossfire to play decently with the eyecandy turned up on 24 inch ones but 22 inch monitors seem to be single gpu territory.

I'd appreciate it if you could shed some light on this!

Its a simple question of the funds you would like to put into gaming. A 24" monitor is more expensive than a 22" monitor and is going to require a more expensive PC to run it too. Gaming on a bigger monitor is always going to be a better experience and I'm not quite sure some one else could tell you how much you yourself would miss out on if you went with a smaller monitor.

I just updated to 1920x1200 from 1680x1050 and its pretty sweet. Gaming is pretty cool, but the extra desktop space is the nicest benefit. Having 2 Firefox windows displaying an entire page side-by-side is pretty sweet, IMO.

yes it is better , when i upgraded my monitor to 22 inch and ran hl2 to 1680x1050 from 1024x768 i was amazed. Can't imagine how 1920x1200 will look like, but you need a good video card.

Yep at last a 8800GT for most of 2006 game and 9800GTX+ / or 4830 / 4850 / 4870 / 260GTX or Stronger for high performances on 1920x1200
well It depend of what game you will notice differance only after a while what you notice i have tryed both 1600x1200 on my native 1920x1200

the thing look more detailed and Larger While Remain good Quality unlike if you put a 42 inch on 1024x780 you can tell how much the image are overstreched for those who as only 1080i HDTV and plug them even 1920x1200 OverStreched on a 42 inch vs a 24 inch is quite looking Bad For Game of Current age
With current design of graphic because you notice the bad quality of Texture DX9.C & DX10 On Close object at close view
I hope in future it get smoother as it did when you compare a 360 to a Xbox Or a PS3 To a PS2
but unlike gamecube to wii barley a Differance for true The wii Graphic make me sick unless it a zelda game or Smash brows game

if ur low on money wait a sales and look for high qualtiy 1920x1200 the SAmsung T240 For Black friday as 320$to 350$

My old computer was a 20" 1680x1050 monitor and I moved up to 24" 1920x1200 monitor. For both these monitors the pixel size was pretty much the same. It's as if I got my 20" monitor and expanded it's space with the same quality. The difference in pixel size may be more noticeable going from 1680x1050 on a 22" to a 24" 1920x1200. I have friend who has a 22" 1680x1050 monitor and it looked pretty good. I guess I can say I can see the difference between his and mine, but between a 20" 1680x1050 just expanded space of the same quality.

Its actually quite nice, not gonna lie. Like the other posters said tho, you gotta have the horsepower to back it up to game on 1920 x 1200. I have a pair of 9800 GTX's and I can max out textures, etc, but sometimes I gotta bump back the AA or some other stuff. But, if you have the bankroll, go for it. Theres nothing like blasting COD in 5.1 surround while sending an air strike with 1920 x 1200 pixels showing the aftermath. :)

I was move from 1280x1024 res with my old 8600GT to 1680x1050 with Radeon 4850 and I notice a big different when playing Medieval II Total War, especially when I set the anisotropic filtering to x16... I can see far away unit more clearly...

I have a 26" monitor running at 1920x1200. I just upgraded from a 19" @ 1280x1024 and all my games still run well at the same settings with an 8800gt. Except Prince of Persia, but that game is pretty inconsistent with performance.
