EDIT: I think everyone is taking this wrong, I am not asking people to evaluate my comp's specs, I am just wondering if it could run Fallout New Vegas on low settings. I know my graphics card and everything else are enough, but I want to know what problems not having enough RAM will cause. BTW I can run Fallout 3 on a medium-high setting just fine. Also I have 250GB of harddrive space, its just filled up with a bunch of useless stuff.

So my computer isn't that great but I want to get Fallout New Vegas for PC instead of 360 because of the mods. So I tested my computer on systemrequirements lab and all of my PC's specs are fine except I need 2GB of RAM but I only have 1GB. I don't really care too much about graphics and don't mind playing on medium to low settings.

My question is, how much will missing 1GB of RAM (I have 1GB and it requires 2GB) affect my computer playing Fallout New Vegas? Will it even be playable?

Here is a screenshot I took of the results for New Vegas (BTW if Harddrive space would be a problem I can easily just delete a bunch of stuff):

You need a new PC, that GPU is too slow, and Fallout needs at least 2GB, not including the RAM your OS needs. What CPU is that, its not a Pentium is it?

with only 1gig of ram your computer has to be old I think most computers for years have had at least 2 if not 4gb. Even my netbook has 2gb.

I wouldn't bother buying more RAM if you're still going to have that 6200 in there. It's probably what will hold you back more than anything else.

RAM might not do the big difference when you have loads of it, but the moment you are lacking just as much as half a gig in a game, the effects become painful, so yes you are definitely going to need at least 2gb of RAM, and you might be wanting to consider a new gpu and cpu as well

The graphic card won't do squad good if you don't have enough RAM to go along anyway. As much as i usually dislike the 64-bit fanboys who believe that 32gigs of ram are "teh über rig", the RAM seriously is the main issue in this case

If you want to play new games going forward my advice is to get a new PC. May not sound appealing but at this point your computer is not worth upgrading.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227261 The linked computer is a Decent choice if you don't know how to build a computer and are tight on Cash. If you can build your own give us a budget and we can fit the bill :)

it will start, but you really are not goign to get any kind of performance on that, go for the 360, unless you want to upgrade your comp.

If I were you, I'd just build a budget gaming rig. You will get way, way better performance for only 6-800 dollars.

Like I said before, I don't really care about the graphics, I don't mind it on the lowest settings but I am wondering if it will lag? Because I can run Fallout 3 perfectly on medium.

I don't want to upgrade my PC, I was just wondering if I could run New Vegas, even without enough RAM because then I could play with mods but I do have a 360 which I could play it on as well. I really don't want to spend hundreds of dolalrs on one game.

I ran Fallout 3 with a P4 3.6, and a GTS 8800 640mb Medium settings of course with 2GB RAM on Windows XP Pro 32bit. :)

BTW, I don't own a P4 3.6 anymore.. just an FYI

Vegas, I wouldn't think would be more graphic intensive than its predecessor, but I could be wrong, don't come back with a can of "whoop azz" if I am.. :P

BTW RAM is cheap nowadays.. well depending, if you have RDRAM then well, I wish you luck..

250GB HDDs were big for that time frame when P4s ran free, so it doesn't shock me at all that he would have only 13GB left.

For gaming, 2GB's is required, 4GB's is preferable.

If if NV was exactly the same, your system has a way better gfx card and more RAM...

minimum spec means the lowest spec you could get away with having to play the game. I would strongly recommend you put another ram stick in, otherwise the game is going to run horribly or not at all.

I don't see how people can stand using a pc with only 1gb ram, 6.74gb in use right now, but I do use demanding apps.

And I don't see why a lot of people get like 6GB of RAM when all they do is play games and surf the internet. I can understand if you're into 3D modelling or something of that sort but otherwise it's just overkill to go above 4GB. I guess some people want to believe that they are "future proofing" their rigs.

This benchmark agrees with me: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/memory-module-upgrade,2264-3.html

NV doesnt use a new graphics engine, it may even run a little better due to optimisation. but tu really gotta ask urself how long u want to prop up this computer. without OS u can build a new PC to blow thi one outta the water for less tehn $400US and less then $600AU. A ps3 Move bundle is the same price and a xbox 360 S is a little cheaper. download the demo and see if u dont mind how it runs, but really.......this computer needs to be retired from current gen gamign soon.

With your spec I would have been dubious about its ability to run Fallout 3, but if you say it runs fine on medium on your PC, then I would expect New Vegas to perform similarly. It will likely have some tweaks to make higher end computers make it look better and run better than Fallout 3, but I think the core engine will remain largely the same.

Comments of others do still stand - the 6200, while part of the 6 series family, is at the very weakest end and quite a few years old now. A 6800 would cope significantly better as was relatively high end for its day, whereas the 6200 was fairly budget for its day, and wouldn't age as well. An additional GB of RAM would also help a lot and is something you should be able to find online very cheaply
