Alright i have two computers, one is connected straight to a modem and the other's internet is running off an inbuilt router of the modem, so both computers have the same I.P. If i install lets say, the same copy of COD4 on both computers, and try to go online (not LAN) at the same time, would it work? Or would i need to get another copy for a different CD key just to play online at the same time.

no. one key per computer for online games. you can use the both online but only one at a time. lan will work with one cd key though.

I came into this topic expecting a 2 girls 1 cup spin off, now I am sorely disappointed. But yeah, Imprezawrx500 is correct, Although you can use the same CD Key for LAN gaming you can't for online, even if you have the same IP.

Funnily enough there is a workaround to this.

My copy of COD4 is on steam, my brother also installed CoD4 through steam on my account.

I knew it was a long shot and one of us would probably get booted not be able to join, but we found, if we join the same server, we can actually play together. If you join different servers, you can't.

It may have been fixed, but check and see, but you can play CoD4 online on any server on either computer as long as one isn't connected at same time regardless. But me and my brother have played in the same server with the same cd key countless of times.

Can you be signed into Steam in 2 separate places at the same time?

No, but once your in CoD4, your in CoD4 and it detaches away from Steam, only valve games don't allow you to do this. What i did was, either one of us would sign in first, join a game, then the other would sign in and join the same game. works just like that, havent tried it lately though, he got a new pc and reformated etc. and has gone back to wow. **** lol

No, one game per PC. Though you can use steam games on multiple PCs as long as you don't use it on both at once

Lol it actually has an online mode, works like an mmo. It's pretty good, but the ping can be pretty bad in crowded areas... Robbing people in the game is so much fun =)

Actually theres no multiplayer, it's online as if you were signed into Xbox Live and played a single-player game.

No it will not work. How do I know? Because I also have two computers and have tried.

You have to remember that a lot of new games have this junk online registration stuff and only allow installation on a few. However, a lot of other games let you play online with only one game, as long as you both have CDs.

You didn't fool me at all. Fallout 3 is one of my favorite games. If it had online, I'd be the God of the Apocalypse.

Actually, you can do that (or at least could up until Christmas). I haven't tried it since then, but I would play with my two brothers, neighbour, and cousin all at once on the same server. If you use the above method, you can do it. It may have been fixed now, idk, but whatever :P

You would need a 2nd CD key for the 2nd IP address (the 2nd computer). If it was a LAN it would be no problem (at least to my knowledge)
