2 Quick Build Questions

Hey guys, I'm building a computer for my friend but I am not too familiar with these new CPUs. 2 quick questions:

1. I saw these two deals on Newegg which looked decent:

Which would you guys take? I think this Phenom 2 705e is a newly released processor so I'm not sure whether it would be better to get that or a 550BE.

2. Can you use DDR2 RAM on a motherboard that is AM2+/AM3 with an AM3 CPU or do you have to use DDR3 RAM?

That's a little too expensive, cause I don't need anything top of the line. Thanks for the suggestion though!
