Wait until BF3 actually comes out before you buy anything...
but 2 560s would be more powerful than 580, and slightly less expenisve, so if you feel like dropping the cash, then go for it.
with 2 6950s youll get between 70-80 fps. atleast in operation metro. but thats outside in the 1st area. indoors obviously alot more fps. i only turned on fraps once and the game crashed after a few min so Ionly got fps of the start. im guessing caspian border, since its a LOT bigger and will have 2x as many people is going to really be pushing even 2x 6950s
I'm sure it will depend on your resolution. We can't know for sure yet, but I'm inclined to think that a pair of 560 Ti's in SLI will be able to do it up to about 1920x1200.
Two 560 Ti's will not do ultra and there is no such thing as a 580 Ti, it's just a 580. If you want to do ultra settings, I'd suggest two 6950s.C_Rule

Why would SLI 560ti's not do ultra but Crossfire 6950 would when both cards proform the same.
i would say this was a fanboy post if it wasnt for the 460 in your sig.hartsickdiscipl

Wouldn't BF3 max out the vram of most of the videocards except for the 2gb models? I don't even really know what vram does in terms of visuals :P Is it rendering textures?I guess it depends on which boasts are true.
If that chart website with BF3 card comparisons is right (claiming one 580 is enough for ultra maxed), then two 560 Ti's should be enough.
If DICE is to be believed, then nothing short of two 580's will max it.
If my friend Peter is to be believed, then his Overclocked 560 Ti can almost completely max it (though almost isn't good enough for you? Also, I hear Ultra settings are different on the beta for some reason).
Don't the Ultra setting actually works, in the Beta.I guess it depends on which boasts are true.

Yeah my buddy says he can do the highest settings on his one SC 560 Ti, so either the beta's Ultra settings are less then Ultra, or DICE has been pulling one over our heads and BF3 isn't nearly as demanding as we all assumed.
I used to think the same that 1GB VRAM might not be enough but from my research it seems that the shared system memory is not as inefficient as I thought.
Do you guys know that crysis 2 DX11 max can use upto 1.5GB VRAM? A friend with a GTX 480 told me that his VRAM usage is maxed in MSI afterburner with crysis 2 DX11 high res texture pack.
What my point is that despite that a 1GB GTX 560 Ti does better in crysis 2 than 2GB 6950 and a 1.25GB GTX 570 does better than a 2GB 6970.
And I dont know why people forget that there IS a 2GB GTX 560 Ti so if someone is not comfortable with 1GB VRAM then they can go for that version.
6950 CF will still be a bit faster than the SLI 560 due to slightly better scaling but it's not gonna be a big enough difference that one will max out the game and one wont.

If you want to do ultra settings, I'd suggest two 6950s.C_RuleDude, I am running BF3 on Ultra with 2 460's in SLI. I get no lower than 50fps and peaks at 100. I am using 4xAA, 16AF, 75%blur, HBAO and all other settings to Ultra. 1680x1050. Runs great. Not sure why you are saying it will not work for him. Show my VRam usage at 1008MB max.

I do not believe 460 sli or 560Ti sli won't be good for BF3, but from the screenshots I've seen, with the game running @1080p (Ultra apparently does nothing in the beta) using 1.3GB VRAMm I would not tell someone they will be able to run the game @1080p ultra with 1GB VRAM.
Not sure why the hell they would allow the Ultra setting in the beta.
Some people are even having trouble enabling Ultra.
Did you hear this from an official source? I would love to think my setup could run this Ultra in 1680x1050.
I am not disputing this at all, I just dont understand why they would do this.

Metro 2033 is the only game I have seen that benefits with more VRAM but yet it is not the only game which shows using more than 1GB so we cant really be sure about BF3 until we have benchmarks.
Just what I've read on a couple of forums. Players can select Ultra, but it does not actually do anything. Not sure why the hell they would allow the Ultra setting in the beta.

I don't specifically know how a RAM bottleneck slows the game down, I would like to know. I thought my problem with GTA IV was a RAM bottleneck. CPU and GPU usage are always like less than 70%, but I'm only getting ~30 fps at medium-high settings. I look at my RAM, and it is being maxed out, constantly at 900MB+ usage.I don't specifically know how a RAM bottleneck slows the game down, I would like to know. No the game is very good but I am talking about it from a technical point of view.
And as far as I know a RAM bottleneck is going to send your FPS crashing. And I would also imagine if 100% VRAM is being used then the GPU usage would also be 100%? It sure is complicated stuff and from what I have seen on forums, nobody really knows for sure how it all works.
I guess if it gives someone more peace of mind to go with more VRAM then by all means they should, no amount of reasoning can give you that satisfaction depending on the individual.
Well, I've finally managed to get this damn thing working.
With my PC running at what you see in my sig, and 1440x900 resolution, I am getting 40-70 outside, with everything on high and 2xAA.
GPU usage at 100% (of course), VRAM usage at 930MB (remember, 1440x900...).
I'm hoping the combination of new drivers and final release will get me some more frames.
EDIT: Before the game crashed... -_-
And I dont know why people forget that there IS a 2GB GTX 560 TiGambler_3Didn't realise MSI have put out a 2GB Twin Frozr II 560 Ti. Definitely worth consideration, but I don't think I can get it here, in Aus. I didn't like the 2GB Palit ones, that were out before, they had the crap Intel flower cooler.

i got the beta and i dont think the settings are even working, low and ultra looks the same to me, no difference in fps either. i am running a 6950 and i get descent fps, even though the beta is full of glitches and artifacts, even on the console version. and yes it does support full 1080 since am running the game on 1920 by 1080angelyoelThey seem like it:

DICE said 2 580s are necessary for running ultra smoothly so don't bother getting 2 560s. Also, note that the "ultra" setting in the beta is not really ultra; it's just a place holder.
From a BF3 fansite: "I lost the link, but there was a blog showing a twitter post by a BF3 Architect (his personal profile) where he talked about the game being capped at "Medium" settings during beta. So that explains why those of us running on "ULTRA" are disappointed that it doesn't look "ULTRA" :-)"
not the most reliable source but though its worth posting.

And I use 2x 90mm fans @ 15v on the heatsink anyway...
Ah, I was hoping for better graphics :) And I was wondering why my single 2GB 560 Ti maxes the demo on Ultra, lol..
