Ok i have a choice out of these 2 pc's

AMD-http://www.meshcomputers.com/Default.aspx?PAGE=PRODUCTVIEWPAGE&USG=PRODUCT&ENT=PRODUCT&KEY=174269

Intel - http://www.meshcomputers.com/Default.aspx?PAGE=PRODUCTVIEWPAGE&USG=PRODUCT&ENT=PRODUCT&KEY=51980

For the AMD i was thinking of upgrading CPU to 4200, the power supply and the graphics card.

With the intel, i don't really know.

I currently have a 3ghz P4, 512mb RAM with a radeon 9700 pro and the system is pretty much on it's last legs after having it more than 4 years.

Which do you think is better, and what customisations would you make?

Also i don't wnat to spend more than 500.

Thanks

id get the amd one because its 45 odd pounds cheaper and they are quite similar. but just make sure you upgrade the graphics card to a 7600gt which is cheaper than 100 quid.

You mean the 7600GS, because the Gt isn't an option. Also will this give me better performance than what i have now?

Another thing, it comes with a 250watt power supply, would that really be sufficient, or should i bump it up to a 550watt?

if you can afford it, get an c2d e6300 on the intel pc, a 550W psu and either a 7600gs or a 7900gs, and youve got a pretty good pc otherwise get the amd 4200

I went with the X2 4200 for my build and she flys, but Intel's E6300 and above are better. The 250 watt power supply is a joke. Stay clear because it is way to under powered to run any decent video card. roulettethedog
Also guys, just wanted to ask if micro towers have any disadvantages compared to midi towers, such as noise e.t.c

Is that a pentium D for 500 pounds?  Isn't that about $1000 U.S?  That is kind of expensive for such an old system.

maybe he should buy his computer from the US and have it shipped. I work at compUSA and we get some foreigners from Eastern Europe come in all the time and buy computers and electronics to bring home cause it is so expensive over there.

I used to do that in Hong Kong, then their economy started to get a lot better. Now my uncle visits us in the US, and then goes to Best Buy...

Check out www.komplett.co.uk They do some really good custom builds, where you can select all the components including the mobo, ram speeds etc, and are also pretty cheap-only £50 or so more than if you built it yourself.
