In 2007 it was predicted that a number of MMO's would challenge WoW's supremacy - not so. Some people are saying the same thing now in 2008.

Do you think there are any upcoming titles that stand a chance? Is Age of Conan and Warhammer Online really offering enough improvements and quality content to satsify those of us spoiled by Blizzard?

I hope so, I would enjoy some variety in the MMORPGs, but I really don't have faith in other gaming companies to deliver the quality and support needed to challenge Blizz.

Do you think they'd make another? Wouldn't they be cutting into their own market of subscribed players by doing so? I would be surprised if Blizz makes another MMO in the next 10 years.

I have high hopesfor warhammer... and also how cool would a diablo mmo be...because if you think about it...unless the new mmo is a brand new IP, a diablo game is highly possible

When/where did Blizz say they were making a new MMO?

A second fantasy-themed MMO would be redundant, a World of Starcraft, however... *drools* I've been waiting and wating for a good sci-fi MMORPG (Hellgate was SUCH a sorry disappointment)

That's because WAR and AoC were both expected to already be released :D

I think 2008 will be a danerous year for WOW, if Wrath of the Lich King cannot be released in 2008.

Look at this from a different perspective - WoW is the most popular pay to play MMO yet. It's safe to say, it is to MMOs what CS is to FPS, and Starcraft is to RTS. Asking 'Which game will beat WoW?' seems as optimistic as saying 'Is 2008 the year CS is challanged?' most likely not. It's an extremely solid game for its genre, IMO the best traditional style MMO yet (I quit a year ago), anybody making anything generic doesn't stand a chance, it'll have to be groundbreaking. Much like if you were trying to make a 'realistic' modern day shooter, played in rounds, you don't really stand a chance against CS.

saying CS is a "solid" game is a bit of a stretch. It was basically for mindless kids that wanted to shoot ppl in real life.

Warhammer looks pretty good and I may check it out but I highly doubt it will rival WoW at all.

lol@blaze...Are you sure your not Jack Thompson?

warhammer has gotten over 500,000 Beta testers alone...thats a huge amount for a Beta...sure it wont beat WOW....but it will be very very popular.

there is also Guild Wars 2..which is a very different type of game...but with the popularity of the first..this one will be very popular also.

Even if there was a new mmorpg that was way better in everyway, it still wouldnt superceed WOW because so many people have long term built acounts in WOW that would not give up because of a new game. The only way i see for a mmorpg to out to wow would have to be by blizzard and blizzard would have to try and merg WOW players to their new mmorpg, or something like that.

Starcraft Online FTW lol but other then that Blizzard just about has a Monopoly on MMO market and will probly be that way for another 3-5 years probly more no matter whether u hate it or love it, WoW delivers solid fun gameplay and a work-together idea that can't be matched by other games
