Wow, the list of strategy games for this year is really looking good, with several key series releasing a new version:

Tomorrow... Napoleon: Total War

March: Supreme Commander 2, C&C 4, The Settlers 7

Q3: Elemental: War of Magic

Q4: Civ 5

No set release date: Star Craft 2

Titles suggested by others:
Dawn of War 2: Chaos Rising (March)
Dawn of Discovery: Venice (Feb 25)

And there is bound to be something that I have missed and a couple of titles that are not on the radar yet.

I will fess up to having missed Supreme Commander 1 and all of The Settlers. Oh yeah, somehow never played Star Craft either . Of these, Elemental is the one that I want the most but I know that Civilization 5 and Star Craft 2 are the games that make this a banner year.

Wasn't Civilization 4 released in 2005?

It's a shame for the devs that so many games will be totally overshadowed.

About the only one on the list I am looking forward to is Civ 5, though SupCom 2 is on my radar as well. I wish game developers would put out more quality strategy games - it has been a while since we have had a 'glut' of them on the market and I think that its about time. 2010 could be The Year for strategy, depends on what else pops up out of the wood works though.

The standalone expansion for Dawn of War 2 is also coming next month. Not a full game, but I'm looking forward to it. ;)

Forgot about that - the new Chaos 'infection' mechanic alone will make it worth a buy.

That's great news. I've been bummed for years by the lack of RTS and TBS games ever since FPS games became the hottest things. In the late 90s, RTS games were everywhere.

I just wanna know what happened to Disciples 3. Is it in development hell or what? Disciples 2 is still an amazing game to play.

Am I the only one looking forward to Napoleon. It looks really good (although overpriced). Hopefully some of the many issue will be fixed.

At least they fixed the 'AI cannot do sea invasions' bug. My favourite quote of late is where one of the CA devs was playing the game and said, "My favourite nation is the British. They are easy to defend." Of course they're easy to defend! It's impossible to F------ LOSE!

I haven't been following SupCom 2. Does it sound good so far or has the decision of going multiplatform hurt the game? I'm not sure how developing an RTS for PC and console is a good decision since consoles are still in RTS infancy. It worries me that the PC version is going to suffer.

Thanks for reminding me about Napoleon: Total War, TC. Totally forgot it was coming out tomorrow. :P

I am looking into a few RTS' this year. I haven't been playing much, but the lineup does look good this year.

Anno 1404: Venice, Settlers 7, and Elemental are the only guaranteed buys for me. The rest are a wait and see type thing for me.
