Some grump in another forum insists that in order for the human eye to discern the higher resolution of 2560 x 1600, you cannot sit at a distance of 4 feet. In other words.

CASE 1) if I am 4 feet from a 1920 x 1080 30" inch display and am looking at a Witcher 2 in action

CASE 2) then I am 4 feet from a 2560 x 1600 30 " display and am looking at Witcher 2 in action

what he is basically stating is that we cannot tell the difference between the two, remember at 4 feet. I tried this exact set-up comparison, and it is immediately clear to me that 1600 is waaaaaaay more better looking and crisper. All i got to say is for those of you who do have a 2560 x 1600 try it out and see what a huge difference it is

What say you?

He's generalizing.

People have different visual acuity and therefore different people will perceive various different levels of details at different distances.

Maybe you just have better eyesight than him.

There are some general ranges though that for most people will eliminate the extra information from a higher resolution image on a particular sized panel. So in that general sense he's right. Eventually, movign away from a source will mean you can't tell the difference between a higher resolution image and a lower resolution one.

That might be 4 feet for him on a 30" panel, or 6 feet for you, but on average is probably somewhere betweent those ranges for most people.

Hah, coincidence your icon is the Witcher, since i referred to it.

given the differences of people's visual acuity,..acknowledging that they are different, but specifically talking about 4 feet, if it makes no difference to him at that distance, he must have terrible vision and needs glasses.

I duno, 4 feet is a lot. At that point it's not so much the resolution but the contrast and brightness of the display.

ya exactlly, its 2560 x 1600 but way expanded to 30 inches, take a game that doesn't even have any HUD or Fonts whatsoever, just the pure game in motion, like any crap FPS like MOH, there is a huge difference ..and again I am specifically talking about 4 feet , not shorter or longer. If anyone else has a 30 " 2560 x 1600 and wants to try this, please chyme in

So funny how you forgot to highlight in red his last sentence...or the fact that he said ur generalizing...do you have some kind of fixation with cherry picking.

wait, i think there is a man with leg amputations who can't sit in a chair, why dont yoy go criticize his medical problems... oh and for the record, I have two legs...how moronic are you

Plus you totally ignored the fact that he is giving a range IN BETWEEN 4 THROUGH 6 feet.

WHeras you have been going off for LESS than 4 feet ... please dont make me embarass you further and bring your quote here.

wait, you know what, let me do your petty Highlight In Red act...and quote you before you retract your statements

The furthest you should be from your monitor at the size and resolution you have is 3 feet

I can deduce from the fact that you say your monitor is on a cart and the fact that you are on a couch that you are further than 3 feet from your monitor.

GummiRaccoon

Wherase the poster above gave a RANGE OF 4 through 6 feet, your blanket statement proposal doesn't even fall into that range, and it actually contradicts it.

That was just guessing on his part how far it should be, the graph I linked to you is an actual study done. And I was implying you have a gravity problem not a no legs problem.

He said I was right and provided why and guessed at what range I would be correct on. Just because his guess wasn't the same as the chart doesn't mean that they contradict each other.

yeah, your cherry picking quotes are almost as bad as you cherry picking out randomized double blinded clincal trials regarding HDTVs/Blu-rays and Videos, b/c as you know they are so relevant, especially when talking about PC gaming. Hate to burst your bubble and your stupid chart, but as of now, the max HDTV is 1080p so, yes your chart is irrelevant "Hey how many brain cells do you have GummiRacoon?" "I dunno, like 1 million?" "WRONG, its none, HAHAHAHAHA IDIOT"

Way to shoot yourself in your own foot

My counter-evidence is for you to read the actual chart you linked. Why did you neglect to mention the bold words denoting the grey area, where he states ALL SEATS SHOULD BE AT LEAST THIS CLOSE TO THE SCREEN, ... then look at the X-axis and trace up where it says 30 inches. My god are you that dumb that you would actually offer a graph that

CONTRADICTS your quote that I should be at less than 3 feet... your so sad. By the way I like how your so - called evidence is called Carlton Bale - My Personal Take: KEYWORD: PERSONAL??? even tho his personal take supports the so called guess range of the previous poster you were so proud to quote.

Way to refer everyone to a link with a chart that contradicts what you said earlier

its easy dullard,

unless reading x and y axis is a problem for you.

my counterevedince you ask... your very OWN chart you linked

there was absolutely no misinterpretation at all....all you have to do is read the very own chart which destroys your dullard-like argument

To be honest the only reason they stopped is because it was late night during a weekday (job). Neither has been online since

For the person who requested Gummitard's chart

1) Here is his CHart he linked...

http://s3.carltonbale.com/distance_chart.html

2) He insists , and I saved all his quotes before he changes them..., that with my screen size of 30 inches I ABSOLUTELY MUST be within 3 feet from the screen in order to benefit. I beg to differ.

you realize that the difference between 1600p and 1440p is no where near the discrepency between 1080 to 1440 right?

you do realize that your "evidence" is based on an imaginary 1600 p line that the "scientist" who conducted this study didnt include right?

riiiiiight... thats what i thought..... all of a sudden your irrational attempts at logic have ceased? i was expecting you to talk your way into feeling good about your sorry state and denial again... what gives now?

There are only so many ways I can tell you you are illiterate.

illiterate u say, ...this coming from someone who relies on imaginary lines and spaces 1600 and 1440 far apart.

It's about half, which is actually bigger than I was estimating, I would say you were closer to 2.5 feet max.

I think you can see the difference at 4 feet.

How does 2560x1600 on 30" compare with 1080p on 22"?

Because 1080p is a lot for 22" but i can clearly see the difference about 4 feet away.

Yes, I agree. At 4 feet you will easily spot a difference at both resolutions. The 2560 x 1600 , even in a game that has no HUD, like an FPS, you will see much more clarity, the look is way cleaner, and it is a day night difference at that distance.

I have a Dell U3011 and playing @25x16 makes all the difference in the world. My head may be about 2' away from the monitor and I can see little faces of WarCraft 3 creeps :)

That's because you are playing at the proper distance.
