Most people are advocating ATI's top card these days. Its 3/4ths the performance for almost half as much. If you have an intel or amd motherboard pairing two of these together might make more sense. Having said that, if money is no object, the 280 gtx is a monster card.

it is the best, single GPU. on a single card on the market.. period.
Because the GTX 280 can be had now for only $400 or less after mail-in-rebate, it's the best graphics out there. It performs just about neck and neck with the HD4870x2 if not better in some games. It's the best deal for high-end cards. And no micro-stuttering like dual GPU cards.
