Ok first of all I have:

Windows Vista Ultimate SP1

2GB RAM

AMD 64 X2 5000+ 3.01GHz OC

8800 GTS 320mb

Ok heres the situation... Whenever I have a few apps open and am running a game my memory usage jumps all the way up to 1.85/2.0gb!!! And whenever it goes any higher my game crashes everytime! I don't get it... I've read across alot of forums, people stating 2GB is all you need in Vista any more you would see no gain????

And yes I disable Aero each time I run a game.

So should I just throw 2 more gigs into my machine? Would it really help at all? Because 60% memory usage while idle and no apps running on Vista is just REDICULOUS!

Do you have any applications running in the background? And do you have virtual memory turned on? As your game shouldn't crash via lack of memory, especially with 2gig of ram.

Whoever said or told you that you wont notice any difference with over 2gb of ram in vista lied. If 1gb is the minimum requirement, how is 2gb going to set you straight for everything? You still shouldn't be crashing though...

Take a look here also: http://www.tomshardware.com/2008/02/15/vista_workshop/

You must have a ton of applications running in the background and are you using the 64bit version? I have 2GB and everything enabled and memory usage is just fine. I saw no benefit in having more memory.
