I'm upgrading my computer and I was thinking of getting 4GB of RAM instead of 2, but how much of a difference will I see in performance?

Not much at this point in time (as far as gaming goes). Vista will run much better though.

I agree with the Vista part but I think you will see a pretty big difference in gaming

Well your system would be pretty future-proof, but by todays standards 4gigs is overkill.

That's what I was thinking. I'll be getting vista by the end of the year, so maybe I'll just pick up another GB then, or 2 if it's cheap.

i disagree. i think in the future you will be able to buy 2 4 gig sticks... and a new mobo is expensive if you have to replace that.... (with the ram; its the reason im replacing not upgrading... stupid dell)

Maybe in a year from now 4GB will be gamer's sweet spot. Right now, 2 gigs is plenty for gaming, even under Vista.

Tell that to Apple then with the 8 core Mac Pro which supports up to 16 GB's, Windows PC's dont even get that high yet, I think we are still generally stuck at 8 GB's as the most. Vista Ultimate would run great on a 4 GB machine no doubt.

huh.... Xeon, and like lawl motherboards most non server motherboards handle up to 8 gigs, vista 64 bit takes 128 gigs.

And to the poster, 4 gigs is nice if your into video editing like me, or photo editing, vista its nice as well.

If you're not hurting money-wise, go for it.

Not much, the only place I think you would even notice any is on Vista 64 and I expect it will be negligible there as well.

Definitely stick with the 2 GB of RAM and snag another 2 GB at the end of the year when you pick up Vista.
