2x 8600GTS or 1x 8800GTS

hi, 

i'm building an new PC with :
intel core 2 extreme QX6600
2gb DDR 800mhz
250GB HDD 16x
and a Sli Ready motherboard,
the screen wil be an 26" HDTV with HDMI

 but now the video card ??
what is the best to do ??
2 times a 8600GTS or 1 time the 8800GTS

get a GTX. If your gonna splooge on the processor why not do the same with the graphics card?

well, the processor will not be that expansive :P the pc shop in my city told me that de quad core 6600 will be cheaper within 1.5 month.. so :P but the price of the 8800GTS (640mb) and 2 times the 8600 (320mb) is the same, so what is the best (and otherwise .. what is the difrence between GTS and GTX on the 8800 version)Gertieej

Don't even think about 2x8600GTS. Those cards are crap for gaming. And SLI is quite the hassle too.

 Get a single 8800GTS which will not only outperform it, but it's a single card solution, and it'll probably be cheaper too.

Hell, a single X1950XT would probably outperform 2 8600GTS in SLI, considering a single 8600GTS is barely faster than a 7600GT. 

i think the SLIing two mid-range cards is meanless, because you can get the high end one, that is chearer and fastermarlonsm

8800GTs faster than 8600GTS  in SLI

get the single 8800gts, then when you need some more oomph, u can buy another one, instead of disposing of the two original 8600s for one expensive card

BTW two 320mb 8800gts just beats a GTX, so two 640mb in SLI is pretty strong 

Yeah, 2 8800GTS, regardless of memory, will beat 1 GTX, and it's cheaper than one Ultra.Noema
