What is the best combo for video card + psu for $300 right now? I am looking to max call of duty 4 at 1280 x 1240.

I was looking to get evga, as I have always liked them (step-up program).

Current Specs:

AMD x2 5600+
3gb 800 ddr2 ram
nvidia nForce 430 motherboard
500gb 7500rpm hdd
rosewill 350w :(
ati 1600pro :(

Probably a Corsair VX450w power supply and a 256MB GeForce 8800GT - unless you can wait for the 8800GS, which looks rather tasty and a fair bit cheaper.

A 512mb 3850, and a solid PSU with 500 watts for around 75$...there you saved $25 for girlfriend.

i got an HD 3850 256 at the start of december and it played CoD4 at max at 1280 x1024 fine. i don't think i had any AA/AF going on tho. i used a 430W antec tripower PSU with it, and its been completely stable. you can probably go at around $250 total if you go for the 3850 256MB. it probably won't be too future proof, but at 1280x1024 it should be fine for quite a while.

the first is the vid card, and teh second is the PSU everyone recommends these days ( seems sorta expensive, but the PSU is getting more and more important)
