I found a PALiT 9600GT for $120 and was wondering if an 8800GT for $160 was worth it for $40 extra. If it isn't, is PALiT a good brand?

The 8800gt is definately worth the extra money, the performance increase justifies it imo. Although it also depends on the rest of your system, no point getting an 8800gt if it's going to be bottlenecked by your CPU for example.

Forgot to add, Palit is a great brand. I have a palit 7900gt in a secondary PC and it's been kickin for years without any problems. They often use their own coolers too rather than the reference cooler on alot of their video cards, so they're great for overclocking.

Well in your case, I would say go for the 8800gt. I'm sure most others here would agree.
