Can you notice much difference between a 40 inch LCD TV with 720p and one with 1080p?

Actually, yes. In regular HD movies, probably not, but in games--especially when there are jaggies and smaller things involved, you will notice the difference.

If you sit 10 feet away, probably not, but within 5 feet, most likely can tell the difference. And so on. It's like sitting too far away froom a PC monitor and not being able to read the text anymore, same with HDTVs, with 1080p, sit too far away you might not be able to make out the finest details unless you sit close enough depending on the screen size.

This was my experience from Best Buy. With the same size screen, For a 1080p, I could see the super fine details 20 feet away. For a 720p, I have to be within 12 feet to see the super fine details.

That doesn't make sense. The more detail the screen has the closer you need to be compared to the same tv with a lower resolution. 20 feet away from a 1080p tv? What was this, a 100inch projection? Being closer to the 720p tv at 12feet you should see less detail than the 1080p version, the opposite of what you wrote. Did you mix up the 1080p and 720p?

Just confused, not attacking you or anything;)
