The 4830 is superior to the 3870, which is closer to the 4670 in performance. Early reviews also suggest the 4830 is a great overclocker.

The fight between the 4830 and the 8800/9800GT is closer, with most sites suggesting that the 4830 is a bit better. However, one review suggests that the 9800 is better when it is using beta drivers (Forceware 180). It comes down to what you want with your card, since neither one is conclusively better than the other at this stage and both overclock pretty well. The 9800 is a little cheaper on average, especially with rebates, while the 4830 offers better home-theater options (such as native HDMI support and supposedly superior decoding). I purchased a 4830, since I needed native HDMI, but either one should be about as powerful as the other.

More or less, yeah. Both are approximately equal in gaming while using approved drivers, but the 9800GT seems to be better when it is using the latest beta drivers. I don't know how accurate that is, though, since only one review compared the 4830 with a 9800GT using beta drivers.

Was that review also using one of the gimped 560SP versions of the HD4830? Because the proper version offers about 5-10% more performance with the full 640SPs.
