I had a huge increase by overclocking this thing, gpu clock 660 and memory clock 1050. I cranked the fans up to 65% and the temp stayed around 60 at all times, I think I gained up to 10fps in my games! Anyone else oc their 4850? I think I could take mine further, but I just dont need to yet. Anyone try any bios modding?

What game did you get the boost in FPS in? I have a stock Gigiabyte 4850 with Zalman cooler so I was thinking of overclocking it. How hot does it run?

Pretty much everything I own, I overclocked itwith only a stock cooler as well. Prototype, witcher, crysis, all saw huge boosts. I was getting 72 fps in the street fighter 4 benchmark, everything maxed and with 8xaa. I play all my games at 1680*1050.

I OC'd an HD4850 using an AC Accelero cooler to about the same speeds you're using - 40 degs idle, 45 under load. I'd definitely recommend getting an aftermarket cooler - the HD4800 cards run hot and loud, and they definitely remedy both problems very well, allowing you to overclock an already fantastic card. :)

Im ok with the stock fans, they are a tad noisy but they get the job done.

good for you, i sometimes consemplate on ocing my 9800GTX+, its allready factory overclocked and the highest temps ive seen are 67oC, the only reason i havnt oced is becasue im too scared of frying my allready awlsome card, and with my CPU which is allrready kinda holding it back, i dont think it would make a difference for me.

at those temps you dont want to overclock, you have nothing to be scared of. if your fan speed is at 100% and its at 67C... overclocking your gpu at this point wont increase your fps due to temperature.

temps should always be considered when overclocking. as long as your gpu is 60C and under you will see the performance increase. even if you got your gpu at 760 clock with 70C you would not see a difference at all because like i said before, heat is slowing down the performance. if you could maintain that cool enough then yes.

Ok, well the fan is at about 40-60% i think when it its 60-70oC, but if you feel theres no point in overclocking then thats ok, im happy with my performance anyway :), apart from when my cpu holds me back

I don't think you can overclock that card much more anyway, I had a factory overclocked 9800gtx+ at one point and couldn't really push it much further (and when I did I saw barely any performance increase). But you're cpu isnt holding you back as much as you think, sure you could get a better cpu and get a performance increase, but if you threw in a gtx 280 or something like it you would show a big increase as well. I sorta miss my 9800 gtx+, but in my tiny case I had no way of getting my second hard drive in, and it also covered half my sata ports and the one ide port. My 4850 performs at near the same level with an oc, but its alot louder... oh well.

What brand? That's kinda sad, although that 4890 should be rocking as is.
