Depends on whether you're going to use DX11.

Well my monitor is 1680 x 1050 and I will use DX 11 when games come out that support it I suppose.

It's hard to give a good answer here, as the price difference between the 5770 and 4850 on Newegg is about $40. Still, the 5770 performs roughly the same as a 4870, and considering that you intend on running DX11 games (when they come out), I'd say that would merit the extra $40 or so.

Thing is will DX 11 even run well enough on a 5770 to warrant the purchase? :?

It's a tough call...i'd say hang on to your money right now and wait to see how DX11 performs on some of the new titles this year that use it. By then you may have more cash to get a better card, and if not, well at least you'll have a better idea. Both cards seem pretty solid though.

Agreed. And considering that Fermi comes out pretty soon, it may have an effect on ATI's current pricing.

If you got any immediate gaming needs that needs to be satisfied, then $100 for a "middle of the road" 4850 isn't a bad investment, considering DX11 isn't going to come around any time.

Edit: By the way, 5770's are like $160-$170, not $140 as you guys say.
