4870 or 9800gx2?

um 2 4850 are better then a single 4870 but if u really had to choice between the 2 the 9800gx2 is better then a 4870 but for that price u might as well get a gtx 280. altough i still dont c why u want to upgrade from cross fire 4850? they will easily max out every game out except crysis.

but if u must. get the 4870 and then buy another one later seeing as u already have a crossfire mother board

Well, supposedly the HD4870 is superior to the 9800 Gx2, both through benchmarks and technical specifications (I think).

...However, there has been threads on the forum saying that the HD4XXX Series aren't working out for them.

In any case, both are fine cards if you ever get them.

You can also wait for the HD4870 x2.

Go for an X38 or X48 mobo instead, your p5k with 8/8 lines is bottlenecking those two 4850 in crossfire.wklzip

Agreed. CF HD4850 > HD4870. And the 9800GX2 isn't that much faster than HD4870 to warrant a 200$ premium. I'd say it should cost 50$ more at the most.

tigerdirect seem solid and HEAPS of ppl buy from there, but teh problem is, i know NewEgg dont ship to Aus, but i heard Tigerdirect does
