4K or 1440p w/144hz

My 980ti needs to be tested but I'm not sure what would I benefit from more. My card definitely won't be chewing up 4K like it is with 1080p so that's a set back since I have to lower my settings significantly. I had 1440 p a while back with a 60Hz and although nice isn't anywhere near the clarity as 4K. It only beats 1080p by a little bit actually imo.

I'm looking at these two monitors.

BenQ XL2730Z and ASUS MG28UQ

The clarity improvement from 1440P to 4k is fairly minimal unless you have a 50" TV and you're sitting within 5-6 ft of it. At 28", it will be pretty hard to tell the improvement (but it will be obvious that your games are running way way worse).

On the flipside, the motion clarity offered by 4k 60Hz is going to be quite poor compared to a 1440P 144 Hz monitor. I can't imagine the typical 4k 60Hz TV being hugely responsive for gaming, either.

If you play fast games 144hz is very noticeable. I personally had the same decision to make and went with a gsync 144hz @1440p.

Get the 1440p/144hz monitor. I have a 4K monitor and things look beautifully amazing (especially compared to 1440p) BUT....it takes a lot to 4K smoothly.

You could get SLI and get more performance but then for some reason, things aren't smooth. Some games have major. microshutter at 4K with SLI, even though you fps average is near 60.

That is why I play at 3440 x 1440 at 100hz and use the 4K for a few games but not many.

I have a 43" 4K TV... I think the games look better for sure, but getting them to run at a decent framerate is tough with 2x 970 i7 4970k.. MGS V looks great at 4k and runs at 60fps with everything turned all the way up, but for most games to get a good framerate you need to start turning down the graphics options... At that point 4k seems weird to me.. Sure the resolution is way higher, but now the other bells and whistles are turned off.

I personally went 4k, even though 1440p at 144hz is better for gaming. My reasons were I'm not a huge gamer anymore. I still do like to game but most of the games I play aren't super demanding (Dota 2, Diablo etc.)

In addition with media content it will be coming out in 4k, not 1440p, so to get the best out of the new media content I wanted a 4k monitor. In addition 4k is 4x 1080p, I can easily amend the resolution to 1080p when necessary with minimal issue.

Although if you are a hardcore gamer I would go 1440p.

With only one 980ti I would go with 1440p. higher hz is way better than resolution in my opinion.

The TN panel on my ROG SWIFT is actually very good.

I would go with the 1440P 144HZ TN Panel like the benq or Asus MG series monitor i'm planning on getting either of those this fall after I upgrade my gpu this summer after my ssds next month. :D

I would definitely go for 1440p at 144Hz. You can turn and spin as fast as you like, and everything stays crystal clear and fluid. At 60Hz, it's much harder to see what's happening on screen when you turn fast. For shooters, 144Hz gives a massive advantage...

As I have said before **** monitors buy a fucking big ass T.V and use that as a monitor but people seem to like gaming on small low contrast ratio screens for some reason?

If you want to test your GTX 980 TI in games go for a 4K T.V the vizio D 2016 series looks like it would be an good 4K gaming monitor good contrast ratio and black levels for an lcd very low input lag in game mode it upscales 1080p content decently to 4K retaining the sharpness unfortunately does not support 120FPS in 1080p which would have made this probably the best 4K T.V to use as a PC Gaming monitor right now if it did as you could choice to either game in 4K at 60hz or 1080p at 120HZ.

IPS still has trouble keeping up with 144hz. The pixel persistence of IPS is just too high. That is why TN 144hz monitors are still kickin around.

Also, IPS won't be touching the speed of a 144hz TN Lightboost / ULMB monitor anytime soon. Yes TN doesnt offer great colors but is still the fastest by a large margin.

TVs are pretty much a joke since you will be locked at 60fps no matter what you do, as they don't design them with inputs made for 120/144 hz / fps signals. This is why monitors still reign over TVs.

TV's dont have gsync/freesync either, which are pretty amazing and it's hard to go back once you've experienced it

Agreed, people say TN is crap because they prefer IPS but TN isn't crap. Does it have negatives about it? sure it does, but so does IPS.
