All the above recommendation's from members are Excellent and your choices very good also however , I'll like to add Some of my choices.
IMO ...
1) FPS - Half Life 2
2) 3rd Person Shooter - Splinter Cell Chaos Theory
3) Racing - Need For Speed Most Wanted
4) Adventure - Dreamfall the Longest Journey
5) RPG - Fables The Lost ChaptersÂ
Best games ever... hmmm
1 - Super Mario Bros 3
2 - Doom 2
3 - Final Fantasy 3us (6jap)
4 - Final Fantasy 7
5 - Neverwinter Nights
But for the most part older games have more long time appeal than most newer games. Seems like newer ones go for the "wow" but don't haven enough depth, must be a sign of shorter attention spans.... now what was I talking about....
OOT nuf sed nuttin compares, but leaving that out
1 half life series
2 far cry
3 battlefield 1942
4 deus ex
5 cod
I love the first Doom and Quake really inspired everything. *I mean look, almost all the games in 2000-2003 used the Quake 3 engine. Must be good. :wink:1. DOOM old school version ( i cannot believe none of you put THIS up here c'mon man that was like the best game of our generation ever ) ( well considering you're 15-18 yrs. old )
2. Battlefield 2
3. Quake 1-4
4. Empire Earth
5. FEAR

@ Tonttu86: I think that's the first time I've seen someone else mention Knights Of Honor, heh. I love that game, the atmosphere is what sets it apart from Total War for example, I think.ShotGunBunny

1. Final Fantasy 3/6
2.Doom -
3.Neverwinter Nights
4.Command And Conquer(the first one, mostly becouse of Kane)
5.Megaman(The one back on the Nintendo, i had alot of fun playing this over and over)
Here are the 5 games I've enjoyed most in my life:

2.- Warcraft III
3.- Monkey Island
4.- X-COM: UFO Defence

And yes, I play actual games, but they pale in comparison.
Lonezerth
1. X-Com
2. Star Control 2
3. Half Life 2
4. Might and Magic 7
5. EverQuest
This is PC only, mind you as there are many console games that beat 3 through 5 imo.
Considering most ppl have games that came out in the past 3-4 years...are we only 12?
My top 5:
1) Super Castlevania VI
2) Super Metriod
3) The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
4) Street Fighter II
5) Super Mario RPG: The Legend of the 7 Stars
Yes I know its all Super Nintendo...the golden age of gaming...still nothing beats this system
Sony Playstation...X-Box (Queer-Box)...psh, aint got nothing on SNES
P.S. Stop with the Halo being top 5 :)
This is easy

Some guy earlier said he thought the depth was disappearring from from games today, and that he prefers older games... Let me ask him a question... What depth is in Mario 3 that wasn't in Super Mario World? What depth was in Neverwinter Nights that hasn't come standard in virtually every new RPG for the computer in the last 3 years? I'm glad you put Final Fantasy 6 before 7 on your list, but I found 7 to be subpar.
Also, some Zelda fanboy also said "OOT, nothing else compares". I think OOT is a great game, but it hasn't aged well, and there have been dozens of games to surpass it if you can get past the fact that OOT was simply one of the first of its kind. I promise, that will mean nothing to the newer generation of gamers who will see God of War and its ilk as the new "nothing else compares" type of game. So consider that.
I respect nostalgia, but I think you should realize that this is all you feel when you play these games. There's nothing special about them anymore.
Hmmmmm....ever?
Dune 2
Homeworld
Deus Ex
World of Warcraft (I know, I know...)
Halflife series (including mods)
