Specs? Genres you like? Games you have? Details are needed if your questions are to be answered.
That aside I'd say get the Orange Box.
What upcoming/newly released games are you interested in? What genre? What are your system specs?
Just go to the shops and check out some games and get one you've been interested in for a while and heard good things about. Or go to the shops, see what there is.. come home and download the demo's and then when your bday comes you'll know what to get.

I refuse to buy new games, unless they are bargain bin $19.99 or less. If I want a new game I just buy them "opened" off of eBay. Personally the idea of spending $50 for just one game is completely absurd and I would never do that! $50 should buy you a minimum of 2 games.
I really wish more people would do what I do because it would bring prices down. People should just flat out refuse to pay that kind of money for one game. Back when I still had an Xbox it was the same way. I would only buy used games from Blockbuster, eBay etc. I think the most I EVER spent on an Xbox game was $29.99 for Forza, used, 3 weeks after it came out. And even though to this day its one of my favorite video games of all time that I played the crap out of I still feel like I paid too much!
Have you ever stopped to think about game prices? Compare them to movies. Movies take years to plan, coordinate, and film. They have huge budgets with massive staffs. Think of the hundreds of people that go into making every movie... The actors, directors, producers, writers, special effect people, costume people, makeup people, lighting people, prop people, and about a hundred other tasks!
Every movie is a representation of 2 to 3 years and at least 100 people's efforts absolute minimum! Yet you would never expect to pay more than about $20 for a DVD that just came out brand new.
Sure video games are an undertaking to make too and many are a few years in the making but I seriously doubt the budget (staff, etc.) for any game has even come close to the budget, staff for even just a run of the mill movie.
Yet they want to charge us more than twice the price for a game than a movie....
That's just not right. And you might say its supply and demand. That way more people buy movies than games but then why do most games make more money than a lot of movies?
You have to think about the amount of money spent into the box, CD, mass production and the hardware they needed to finish the game. The developers need money so therefor they charge a fairly high price, unless they don't deserve money for their hard work:roll:I refuse to buy new games, unless they are bargain bin $19.99 or less. Uhh.....It takes more skill to create a good video game than filming a movie. Im not saying filming movies takes no skill, but computer animating and those stuff are far more difficult to complete.[QUOTE="Store24"]You have to think about the amount of money spent into the box, CD, mass production and the hardware they needed to finish the game. Im not saying filming movies takes no skill, but computer animating and those stuff are far more difficult to complete.LOL! WTF? A typical "block buster" type movie like "Spiderman 3" ,etc has at least as much if not WAY more computer animation than any video game does! I think you need to rethink things... Have you ever stopped to think about how much computer work is done on the average movie these days? And the hours/staff evolved to do it? That's just on an average movie. Now think what it takes for a Spiderman or Matrix!!?! Are you kidding me?!!
Show me some proof, have you ever thought of the AI programming, map engineering, coding physics, graphic texturing and a lot more that needs to be implemented into a game? You also need to go through the files for bugs and final polishing. A lot of stuff for creating a video game isnt in a movie.Vilot_Hero
Crysis budget, "one of the most expensive games ever made" = $27 million - http://www.gamespot.com/news/6162532.html
"Horton Hears a Who" = $85 million budget - http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=42987

Not any longer. Devs have streamlined the process, to the extend of shared libraries (why so many games may appear the same from the same dev company). What takes so damn long is the artwork and netcode now. That eventually will be streamlined as well.
No longer do devs have to manually vectorized models, they can whip them out of Maya or other specialized 3D tools (which again, studios have to streamline production).
And P.S. Spiderman 3 leads in budgets at $258 million!!!! That's right! Look it up here - http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/records/budgets.php
Or just Google it, its not exactly hidden info! Go look at that list, the movie "Clerks" made in 1994 had about the same budget ($24 million) as Crysis (the most expensive video game ever made)!!
Give me a break!

Well played, and the reason why movies cost less than pc games is because movies are more "Idiot Proof". When a customer walks into a store and see's a movie, he doesnt have to worry about system requirements or stuff like that. Where pc games, the customer looks at the requirements and says "What is this?". My point is that movie producers don't have to worry about wether they will lose or gain money because more people watch movies than play video games, and pc developers have to have a hefty price because there are less pc gamers than console gamers and movie watchers.I don't know if this paragraph makes sense or not but im tired, and I need to get some rest soon.

LOL So why do 360/PS3 games cost more than PC games? They are more idiot proof than movies because now you have the "idiot" question of DVD Vs. BlueRay!
And P.S. it wasn't "well played" its just being aware of factual information...

Just remeber that the next time you buy a video game. Crysis, the highest budget video game in history, ($27 mil) cost only slighty more than the budget for the Kevin Smith movie "Clerks" (24 mil) in 1994, which was in black & white and not even very popular.....
Yet we are supposed to pay $50+ for new video games even though new movies would never cost more than $20....
