Just out of curiosity...... I know that 7200RPM is much better than the 5400RPM speed for HDD, but does it actually make a significant difference when gaming?

Not much. It helps out on load times a bit. There's no reason to consider a 5400RPM drive unless you're getting a laptop though.

5400 RPM is better for laptops? Is it due to noise?

Its cause I was thinking about getting a Dell XPS laptop for school and a little bit of gaming..... and a few friends suggested getting the 7200 RPM version which would cost extra $169 on dell site for canada.

less noise, heat (biggest factor), less power consumption (2nd biggest factor).

What screen size is the laptop? Are you getting the standard battery?

If it's 17in or lower and you're getting the standard battery, I'd go 5400rpm because

-smaller laptop means higher heat (I think) and you could cut it down with the 5400

-standard battery would last longer with the 5400

-not worth 139$ extra

That's all imo and based on speculation.
