Hey people,

Need some help for a friend of mine. He's got $600 to spend and wants a system. The catch is, he needs periphirals, monitor, and win 7 included. I suggested an AMD setup if he wants something decent for that price. Knowing how great you people are at whipping up the impossible, I thought I'd ask : P

If possible, could you provide an AMD and Intel build for that budget? Thanks!

Thanks Ionus. Anyone else have any builds, please put them through. Even intel based ones, if that is even possible for the price. Remember, he needs monitor included as well.

AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE OR FX 4100

8GB 1333 RAM (brand isn't a huge deal)

Good $80-ish AM3+ motherboard

Rosewill Challenger (or similar ATX Case)

$20 ASUS DVD Driver

500GB WD Caviar Blue

Antex Modular 550w or something similar

6770 or 7770 (if in your budget)

Windows 7

Good 1080p or 900p monitor for $100-$130

Should be around $650. If he can afford to take and older monitor that runs at 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 1024, etc., and use it temporarily he could get a better GPU. An intel build isn't a great option at this price point.

mm generally you should reserve intel builds for 750 or above. unless your one of thiose misbegotten fools who think buying into a 2 core cpu now is a wise decision (lol) while waiting on the money to get a quad core in 2 months time

Seconded this except the GPU 6850 is generally abit cheaper than the 7770 ( if you can find one that is ) and at default clocks its a bit faster Or you can go a bit over budget and get a 6870 Also imo a dvd-drive nowdays is not needed ( you can just create a bootable usb drive with Win7 )

I figured intel wouldn't a good option at the price point. He was actually going to go with a dual core i3 with HD 2000, and no dedicated video card. I told him to hang on while I check with the PC Hardware experts :P
