Thats about near impossiple for gaming. Too small a budget with a monitor and os involved. Unless you just want a pc...

You can find plenty of cheap, but decent hardware anywhere. Gigabyte has some small, cheap boards that work fine and AMD's lower end dual cores are about 50 dollars now.

You can do better than that....

I built a computer for 450 (no monitor) that games just fine. It was an AMD build that had an 8600gt, 2 gigs of corsair memory, antec 450W PSU, cooler master case (that blue one, no window), vista basic, dvd-rw drive, and a 320GB WD hdd.

Alright, after looking at newegg...

case:

gpu:

EVGA 384-P3-N851-AR GeForce 8800GS 384MB 192-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

psu:

Antec earthwatts EA380 ATX12V v2.0 380W Power Supply - Retail

ram:

mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model 996527 - Retail

Combo deal (10 bucks off):

Microsoft Windows Vista 32-Bit Home Premium for System Builders Single Pack DVD - OEM

&

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ Brisbane 2.1GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Processor Model ADO4000DDBOX - Retail

Total comes to 641.73 with shipping, minus 60 bucks in mail in rebates.. Grand total is

$581.73

________________________________________________________________

This is only for a game that I would consider OK for gaming... The motherboard has junk integrated graphics that could work for basic tasks.

Where can cuts be made?

-get an 8600 or an hd2600pro.. could probably take up to 40 bucks off the price.

-use an old dvd drive from the last computer... takes 26 bucks off the price

-reformat your old hdd, and use it in the new computer.. (I generally do not recommend that)- but would take $65 off the price

-wait for a better deal on cases.. because there are not many great low end options on sale atm that I would trust.. was 20 bucks cheaper for a similar case to the one I listed here

These parts look very good for such range. I do agree that AMD cpus are way better than Intel when it comes to very tight-budget like yours.
