I just got a new laptop from best buy(toshiba sattelite) and it asked me which version of windows 7 to install. I didnt do much research so i chose the 32 bit version. I then realised it only recognizes 2.84gigs of my 4 gigs of ram. Is there any way to change to 64 bit? It didnt come with a cd btw.

You'd have to re-install the OS, 64bit version to make use of it. There's no way to just switch the OS from 32bit to 64bit. Maybe best buy can help you with it....? Though in the end, I think you'll have to purchase a new version of a 64bit OS.

When you purchase Windows 7 you get both the 32bit and 64bit versions. So you should not need to purchase a new version but Best buy may charge you for the re-installation.

Here's how Vista and Win 7 works: Their Keys are designed so that they can only be used with the OS version that they are built for. In your case, you had an OS version that allowed you to choose 32bit or 64bit - this info is built into the Key. Once you pick which version you want to install, you cannot go back to the other version.... However, if you never actually activated your Key yet (you can run a copy of Vista or Win 7 for 30 days without having to actually activate the Key - after that you're pretty much forced to activate) you might be able to start over with the installation process. You'd have to reformat and reinstall your OS and choose 64bit this time around. If you don't have a disk for it, then you need to contact Best Buy and explain your situation and they might be able to help you. If you have activated your Key for Windows, then your SOL and you'll have to purchase a new version of Windows in a 64bit version and then reformat and reinstall to correct your issue.
