I would like to know if 64 bit system is better than 32 and why? Wanted to try 64 bit windows for a long time, but I still have not seen any one using it. I remmember when windows xp 64 bit came out, they said that it's good but not many programs or games supported it. How is it today? Is there something really to enjoy on the 64 bit windows, compared to 32.

practically they r the same but the 64 bit needs a 64bit processor and has more ram capacity support.

The 64 bit in a few years will be I believe the standard in computing, in fact in a year I will probably switch to 64 bit Vista depending on its maturity. Anyways the 64bit OS can address more memory. As of right now 64 bit is not really needed on home PC's as there are few programs that are designed for it(windows anyways), but like I said in the future more and more programs will be designed for it.

No, they aren't the same.

I don't know to what extent you'll see improvement in gaming (if some game supports 64-bit CPU), but theoretically a 64-bit CPU should perform much better.

For example, in assembly language if we want to add two 64-bit numbers it would just take one instruction on a 64-bit CPU, but it will take 4+ instructions to do that on a 32-bit CPU. For more complex instructions involving big numbers, a 64-bit CPU would perform significantly better.

No problem. I did not think on getting it few years ago and I am not thinking in getting one today. I think 64 bit system will take time to evolve.

That is exactly what they said when windows 64 bit came out, but I don’t think it will happen in the near future. They need to come up with something first (cutting edge)

And finally "zaigham" this topic is not about 64 bit CPU, but today they are much faster then they did before on the 32 bit system. So as far as I see, there is no point in installing windows xp or vista 64 bit. I have both Vista Ultimate and XP Pro 32 bit, but I prefer using XP, course of gaming.

I'm personally making the 64-bit vista plunge. Games run fine on vista, sure you lose a few frames but who cares. And I can't remember who it was[think it was anandtech] but they said WOW[vista 64-bit 32-bit emu] runs 32-bit programs better than the 32-bit version itself, including games. As for getting a os in 64-bit or 32-bit, besides being more future proof theres almost no difference under current apps.
