Okay well my brothers 6600GT AGP went out today. I called PCCLUB for the 7800GS and well yea they dont have them in the stores go figure. Bestbuy is a little expenisve at 250 bucks as to PCCLUBS 160. So I see bestbuy has the 7600GS for 140. It has DDR2 memory which I heard is not so good. I would order from newegg but he is without a computer for a week or so. He has a friend over and kinda no fun for him. So I really have no clue what to do.
upgrading frm a 6600gt to a 7600gs isnt really worth the money... either u wait for the 7800gs to be in stock or u shld try n increase ur budget to get a x1950pro agp.... its soo much better than the 7800gs

7600GS is about the same as a 6600GT.
Surely if he doesn't have a video card he will get far more school work done.?
He uses his computer for research, microsoft word, just forget ill figure out what to do my self. This is too impossible for you guys to comprehend.
it depends when does he specifictly need it and does he play alot of games because if you order the 7800gs online on newegg thats $150 without the rebate tonight it should arrive by next weekend and it would be worth it espically if he likes to play games if he doesn't play that many games or he can't wait till then then just get the 7600gs

Anything agp isnt worth the dosh. PCI-E mobos arent expensive at all just buy one of those and some cheap DDR.

and get a cheap video card. you didnt say anything about gaming? just school so yeah.
