I planning on getting a 680i motherboard I was going to get a EVGA but I keep hearing people having problems with them and having to return them I don't want to buy a Striker Extreme because they cost to much. I was looking at the BFG 680i it looks like the EVGA motherboard but cost more can any one recommend a 680i motherboard as there are so many to chose from I want one that has good reviews.

Just make sure you get a newer revision of the EVGA board and you are fine.
8th post here

The new one is..
PCB 180-7R093-0000-D00

The old one was..
PCB 180-7R093-0000-C00tacularOne

The older boards seemed to have some QC issues, in some cases couldn't push past a 333mhz FSB.

No.... where did I say anything about the bios?

EVGA revised the mobo, fixing most of the quality control issues that people were having, so the newer boards that have "D00" at the end are the ones you want.

are you looking for the best overclocker or is there something else you have in mind as qualifying as the "best"?

As far as chipsets go, the 680i is the best for Overclocking :)

**Cough**

Noooo....
That crown belongs to the DFI board. It has a very common, for that model board, max 510mhz FSB without modding.
Now some other boards can do that, but it isn't as common nor as stable as the DFI board.

I have a question, since I have my quad core processor and need to eventually get it exchanged when I can. How will that affect my vista home premium already installed on my computer/ drivers that I updated for my graphics card and stuff. Am I going to need to like re-install it all so that it recognizes it or no. Also, with the new a1 boards will they come with the newest bios update so that I don't need to flash it and upgrade to I think it's like (xx5) or something with a 5 for the latest one.

Unless you're planning to go SLI, then don't bother with the 680i boards. They run a bit hot (which is a hindrance for upping the FSB) and they cost quite a bit as well. The P965 chipset, especially the respective motherboards from Gigabyte and ASUS, are the best overclockers around. The DS3, DS4 and DQ6 (P965) are the top overclockers from Gigabyte. ASUS' stars are the Commando and the P5B Deluxe.

This one of the latest Asus boards. I haven't even got to testing it yet, but from what I have heard for early adopters... its basically a Striker Extreme stripped with alot of stuff.

Yeah, God had better given us this mobo instead of Jesus. Then we could spend the money they would otherwise use for churches on solid rigs! :P

i don't really think people should just reel away from the evga just from the onset that they hear a lot of problems on it. i know evga and nvidia is working their butts off to fix the bugs, they've continually been putting out bios updates to fix problems, the sata problem is gone for me at least, the board is a good overclocker with nice features, and the fact that is has life-time warranty is nothing to sneeze at.

That board is for workstation users, as you can see from the PCI-X slot.

Does anyone who has the new a1 version know, if you need to like update the bios on the board? Or is it already their latest bios version and what not? Also do you have to reinstall all the drivers and stuff? Or can you just plug it in and it'll work fine.

I am willing to agree with you, for now. I am one of those unfortunate souls who are having problems with the 680i. But I am using the computer right now, waiting for them to send me a replacement board, THEN I will send them this defective one. While I hate having problems, at least this company is willing to do WAY more than ASUS ever attempted to do for me. I have been around long enough to know that just because it sounds good, don't mean it is.
