@IAAGguy:
the video listed on steam is where the game will eventually end up. All those features are not yet implemented.
The AI currently just "knows" where you are at night. This will be updated in the next update I Believe (Alpha 7).
The zombies will try to get to whereever you are through whatever, there are currently little tricks you can do to exploit it but its not the be all and end all of an alpha. Ive often found holes in my walls etc that I had no idea they were even attacking in the morning when going out.
The squarish block work world of minecraft is currently there, but is being replaced with smooth terrain soon.
A few different game modes (deathmatch, horde, survival). Ive been playing survival only, so I dont know about the other modes.
The game differs from minecraft in that there is structural integrity in the world. No floating objects. Your mine could collapse on you if its to wide/big, unsupported well etc.
The cutting down of trees you chop once like you would and the rest collapses, as another example. This is how zombies will bring down the houses/towers etc if not built/defended well.
Crafting is more intuitive also, Id say more complex to. Although there is nothing like redstone or anything else (yet - dunno if they plan to go that way or not).
you have a list on the right of the crafting window, whatever is listed here is craftable from your current inventory items. If you click on it it will tell you the layout but you need to work out what goes where in the grid. Once you have crafted something, the name will go green, you can just double click the name and it will build the item for you from your inventory supplies without you putting the items into the grid.
In alpha 6 they change the way crafting works for some things. Before you could take scrap metal and turn it into iron ingots from the crafting window.
Now, you need to build a forge, find some clay, make some molds before you can smelt to iron ingots.
Brass scrap and Lead scrap can be melted to ingots as well.
You can break down guns to make molds of the parts to manufacture your own weapons. Bullets can be made as well. Brass for casings etc. You make gunpowder, but need to mine for resources to make the potassium nitrate. Other items like iron, coal, and lead also.
Guns and ammo is pleantiful atm right from the start but I prefer the crossbow and spiked club. Both things you can build at the start of the game.
Once you get to farming you rarely need to go out looking for supplies anymore as food grows so quickly and you will have so much of it. Mining provides a lot of resources also, but this depends on what you are trying to do.
Like minecraft, its a game that is what you make of it. It needs improvements, sure, but it has a tonne of potential and is currently quite stable for an alpha. I play for hours with no crashes etc.
Ive put in 38 hours according to steam so far. Im restarting again trying something different this time around after learning all I did previously.
