So I was looking for a game to buy to entertain me for a while so I was browsing Steam and I saw a game that caught my eye: 7 Days To Die. It's supposed to be a crafting/survival game much like Minecraft. Before I buy it, I want to get your guys' opinions on this game. Is it any good?

@IAAGguy:

the video listed on steam is where the game will eventually end up. All those features are not yet implemented.

The AI currently just "knows" where you are at night. This will be updated in the next update I Believe (Alpha 7).

The zombies will try to get to whereever you are through whatever, there are currently little tricks you can do to exploit it but its not the be all and end all of an alpha. Ive often found holes in my walls etc that I had no idea they were even attacking in the morning when going out.

The squarish block work world of minecraft is currently there, but is being replaced with smooth terrain soon.

A few different game modes (deathmatch, horde, survival). Ive been playing survival only, so I dont know about the other modes.

The game differs from minecraft in that there is structural integrity in the world. No floating objects. Your mine could collapse on you if its to wide/big, unsupported well etc.

The cutting down of trees you chop once like you would and the rest collapses, as another example. This is how zombies will bring down the houses/towers etc if not built/defended well.

Crafting is more intuitive also, Id say more complex to. Although there is nothing like redstone or anything else (yet - dunno if they plan to go that way or not).

you have a list on the right of the crafting window, whatever is listed here is craftable from your current inventory items. If you click on it it will tell you the layout but you need to work out what goes where in the grid. Once you have crafted something, the name will go green, you can just double click the name and it will build the item for you from your inventory supplies without you putting the items into the grid.

In alpha 6 they change the way crafting works for some things. Before you could take scrap metal and turn it into iron ingots from the crafting window.

Now, you need to build a forge, find some clay, make some molds before you can smelt to iron ingots.

Brass scrap and Lead scrap can be melted to ingots as well.

You can break down guns to make molds of the parts to manufacture your own weapons. Bullets can be made as well. Brass for casings etc. You make gunpowder, but need to mine for resources to make the potassium nitrate. Other items like iron, coal, and lead also.

Guns and ammo is pleantiful atm right from the start but I prefer the crossbow and spiked club. Both things you can build at the start of the game.

Once you get to farming you rarely need to go out looking for supplies anymore as food grows so quickly and you will have so much of it. Mining provides a lot of resources also, but this depends on what you are trying to do.

Like minecraft, its a game that is what you make of it. It needs improvements, sure, but it has a tonne of potential and is currently quite stable for an alpha. I play for hours with no crashes etc.

Ive put in 38 hours according to steam so far. Im restarting again trying something different this time around after learning all I did previously.

I don't like it that much, I love one thing about it and it's the zombies, they're really dedicated to kill you, looks like the only way to get yourself safe is high up and destroy the way to you.

I love Rust so much more even if it's not fully released.

That game needs alot of work. The graphics aren't too good but did like that everything can be destroyed in the game. I find they went overboard with the zombies at night, they just come none stop and super pissed off and will tear at anything to get to you which makes building a base kinda hard. So far only way i found to survive the nights is ladders and to find a roof to climb up on.

Anyway this game needs some serious work and not worth near the 35 bucks they're asking for it. If i were you i'd wait awhile till they add alot more or a super special.

The game has a sweet idea, but looks a little to rough around the edges for me.

Game companies want to save money by outsource QA to people who will do it for free or even pay them.

If you don't mind an early access title, it's very rough right now but all of the cool elements that darksusperia mentioned are there. I usually find a house, go upstairs and destroy the stairs behind me with an axe. It was kind of creepy waiting out the night while listening to zombies smash everything downstairs trying to get to me.

It's more complete than some alphas in as much as it doesn't seem to just be broken. The core gameplay elements are there, but I don't know if it'll have the same level of crafting fascination as Minecraft. Still, it's an ambitious idea.

I found it entertaining for a couple of hours, but I don't think I'll play it again.

solo its ok, I put in 38 hours solo, before renting a server (cause shitty net in aus) with 4 slots for 3 of us.

so much better in co op when you are all working together but on seperate things.

This game has the potential to be epic when complete. The gameplay is all there, just needs refining.

Saw the shitty Halflife 2 amateur mod looking graphics. The AAA price tag and the words "**** off" came to mind.

Insurgency is about half the price, pick that up. It's an actual good game my friends.

Doesn't look THAT much better.... and I watched gameplay videos and the animations are bad.

Saying that, who cares if they don't look like Crysis 3. The gameplay and fun factor is what matters.

Which insurgency delivers with a superior presentation and more than half the price tag.

Entirely subjective. Depends what you want from the game.

Eurogamer early access review

"There's a line between indie and amateur, and on current evidence 7 Days to Die lands on the wrong side of it"

I don't see how. It was incredibly cheap and I'm enjoying it. I'm not even sure what the point of this comment was to be honest, just comes across as a bit immature.

No knee jerk reaction.

You came into this thread, gave your opinion, based solely off the graphics and price.

You then began your crusade of graphics/insurgency, which has no relevence to the topic at all.

You dont seem to see the irony of your posts.

So, we can assume:

A), you havent even played the game

B) like counter strike clones.

As for eurogamer, they like dayz, no different to the pcgamer review. Yet I disagree, as do many others. Horses for courses.

Agreed. Everyone thinks their opinion is the "objective" viewpoint, but if you like a game then you haven't wasted your money.

My friend, ignore my objective and officially sourced advice. This fellow above me is right. When a shit is on the floor and it stinks, and the entire world see's it for what it is, as long as you, feel, deep within your soul it is wonderful, the best piece of shit in the world that's all that matters. Ignore the 30% metacritic, the huge price tag, the shitty Fallout 3 on low settings graphics. Follow your hart. Or something.

My friend, feel free to show me specifically the post I said this. It seems to me you are no more than butthurt fanboys badly attempting to back each other up. Again, incredibly juvenile.

Grow up please. Chumling, if you (attempt) to respond badly, be aware it is possible to enjoy objectively bad games. Otherwise this is just nonsense, complete and utter time wasting crap.

if the topic was " what are your thoughts on insurgency" or "is insurgency worth the $$$" you would be helping. But as its not, you are trolling.

you havent played the game as youve already implied. so why are you still here?
