lcd and plasma cant display "i" AKA interlacing. they always display picture in there native "p" aka progressive. say your tv is 1366x768 p it wil display 1080i as that. 1080i is 1920x1080. only crt can display "I" signal. lcd and plasma will always just convert it to there native res . you can only get a true 1080p with flat pannel tvs. but the way i work at a tv shop so i know what i am talking about.deadmeat59
bs i know whean my tv is doing 1080i or 720p with 720p u get full 60 frames per secound with 1080i what the tv does is displays 570i x2 on your screen but runs at 30 frames instead of 60 they do give you a true1080i image only at 30 frames which if using for gaming can get choppy
you shouldnt be working at tv shop lol only crt can display i signal lol lcd can do the same

LCDs or any other progressive tvs don't run in interlaced modes, they are always progressive and deinterlace interlaced signals. You are not seeing alternating 540 lines like you would on a CRT, it trys to put the split frames back togethor and converts it to 60fps to match the 60hz refresh rate of the tv.
Only tv I've seen close to 1080i is a weird smaller 42-46inch Plasma that claims 1080i, but it's just 1024*1080 resolution, so it has the 1080 lines it would need to show deinterlaced 1080i, but it still lacks 1920 across, so you lost near half the detail of the 1080i signal. The only way to see full detail of 1080i on a progressive tv is with a 1080p tv, and even then not many can do proper inverse teceline to keep it from dropping down to 540 during fast motion of film based 1080i. I think like a JVC LCoS Rear projection was one that actually managed to do it right.
So no, LCDs just support 1080i input, that doesn't mean it can run at 1080i, it's all for compatiblity reasosn since there are 1080i only stuff out there like tv shows or HD camcorders and what not. No matter what, it's always running at the native resolution.
And where did you get 570 from, that's 1140, not 1080.
dang all i was asking for recommedation for tv i understand the concept behind the lcd and plasma i was just asking which tv would be good for a 720p but also could output 1080i i wish i made my message more detail the first time i was in rush when i sent it but cant most 720p convert to 1080i though like this defect tv i got check it out http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3285638&CatId=386
when it was working it looked pretty good though, when i put my 360 game on 1080i input and my game could support it it kinda look a little chopp a little bit to didnt understand that though
oh i wasnt so pose put my settings on 1080i on 720p tv i thought i could since the tv said it could support 1080i look like i got confused when i get home ill change it back to 720p

Yeah, since pretty much the 1080i is converted to 720p, you don't get anything but the cons of 1080i and none of the pros of 720p. 1080i though should pretty much looks the same because of that, but there is a chance during fast motion it might not appear as smooth as a 720p signal and so on.
The key thing with all displays, choose the resolution that best matches the displays native resolution, and that will get the best picture out of your tv.
