The only time I have ever noticed is sitting at a sports bar they are getting full top quality cable signal and have some 720 and some 1080 and you can tell 1080s look ever so slightly crisper, but with out the side by side I don't think you will ever notice. (disclaimer: I totally spent the 400 extra for the 1080 when Iboughtmy tv)

I've heard that 1080p is only noticably different if the TV is at least 40" or more. I just bought a 37" 720p Bravia and it is an amazing improvement compared to my old CRT 27" Flatscreen.

If your going 30-37" go 720p, personally the extra $1-200 for 1080p at that size isn't really worth it.

If your going 40"+ go 1080p, you'll see the difference~

1080p is obviously much better looking than 720p. But there are a few factors that come into play into acquiring those better visuals. First and for most you need true 1080p content. If you play a game which is 720p, it will just be upscaled. The next most important thing is view distance and screen size. The bigger the screen is the further away you can sit from the tv and see the benefits of 1080p over 720p. If your on a tv set that is 40" or smaller then don't expect to be relaxing on a couch 10 - 15 feet away and expect to see a major difference. If you sit lets say 6 feet away though then there will be.

I bought a 1080p set only because i hook up my pc to it. So the 1920x1080 resolution that 1080p provides is beneficial for pc games. The best thing to do though is just go for the largest 720p screen you could offord. A 60" 720p set with good contract and colours>40" 1080p set.

Unless you're going to be watching Blu-Ray a lot, save the $600 and go with the 720p. Most games come 720P native anyways.

720p. You'll hardly notice a difference between the two, maybe a slight difference at 46"+ but not enough to justify spending that much more cash on 1080p. Besides, you do know that hardly any games actually render in 1080p? Most games render in 720p, and the picture is just upscaled to your resolution. Some arcade games might, but most 360 games don't even use 1080p natively. Just go for 720p. I have a 40" 720p Samsung (LNA450) and it's great.

many people that are going to say 1080p looks much better!! spent the exta money, people that say not a diff, didnt, i have both and i keep mine in my room (42in 1080i) in stead of my living room(46in1080p) i have switch before too see the difference, and really i see a very small difference only when i am looking for differences, when i play the game they both look equally as great, so buy th e1080p if you have the extra money, if you want to save a bit, dont worry about it, it will still look 1000000000% better then sdtv

It really depends on the TV's that you are comparing. I have a Sony xbr4 50 inch and it is the best picture I have ever seen (1080p), when I look at my 720p/1080i 37 inch vizio it hardly compares. Then again, we are talking a 2800 dollar tv vs. a 900 dollar tv. You get what you pay for I guess right? BTW, I would recomend sony's motion 120hz picture, the one with motion blur correction, it is simply lifelike. In otherwords if you get a 1080p get one that also has a 120hz refresh rate with some sort of motion blur reduction.
