Would I be able to max Oblivion on that card? Here is the card.

EVGA 256-P2-N624-AR GeForce 7900GS 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 KO Video Card - Retail

It would save me a decent amount of money. Or should I just go for the X1950PRO and loss some money?

I need help! Thanks Fellas'!

Since you obviously won't get a 8600 (Trust me,they rape the 7900's/X1950's in that game) you better save up for a 8800GTS 320MB because NEITHER of those cards can max oblivion out @ 1280x1024.

Still the 8600's kill their predecessors in that game.

Well, Oblivion isn't the only game I'll be playing. I wanna be able to max most games that are out or coming out soon. I heard that the 8600's were terrible in other games.

Then what you need is a 8800. Not a 8600 or 7900GS, especially if you want to max most games that are comming out soon.

8800 is a waste of money because he play's @ 1024x768,why would he buy a $280 grafx card for such a low resolution?

OP: Its either 8600 or you're better off with the 360 version of the game.

It's a waste of money if you don't know what you are talking about. Even at 1024x768, the 8800GTS gets significant FPS boosts over any DX9 card, how do I know this? I own one, I went from a 7800GT to an 8800GTS, and I actually play at 1024x768 sometimes, thats the native 4:3 resolution, however in widescreen I play 1360x768, and I can't say that I feel it was a waste at all... even at 1024x768. It's either a 8800 or a really stupid move, like buying a 8600 to run future games. Seriously if 30fps in Oblivion, doesn't tell you I'll tell you, stay far away from an 8600. Especially if you want "max" anything as far as future games go.

The 7900GS will almost max Oblivion, might have to tone down a couple of settings ^_^ as long as you've got a good CPU and RAM :D

Yeah I know I would regret it. Thats why I'm not getting a 8600GT because it's crap and I think ARRONRULZ is just an 8600GT Fanboy...No offense. I'll see if I'll be able to go with the 8800GTs. Thanks man.

You made the right choice. Don't go any less than X1950XT or 8800 for "maxing out". Even at 1024x768, as resolution isn't the only factor. Some people just don't get that.

Won't that cause a bottleneck?

Oooh yeah that bottleneck... so scarry. I have an X2 4600+ and 8800GTS 640MB, my games run ****ing perfect. Dude trust me, you can listen to these people all you want. But I promise you, if you get an 8600 you will regret it. It's not enough.

Yeah I know I would regret it. Thats why I'm not getting a 8600GT because it's crap and I think ARRONRULZ is just an 8600GT Fanboy...No offense. I'll see if I'll be able to go with the 8800GTs. Thanks man.

I don't even have a 8600GT,so STFU before making false statements like that.

Well then... why are you suggesting it? It's clearly a POS for most people who want max settings. Look at the benchmarks, 30fps at maximum settings isn't exactly good. That's a horrible frame rate compared to what you would be getting with an 8800.

[QUOTE="WhiteSnake5000"]Definitely go with a cheaper AMD CPU like the X2 4600+ and combine it with an 8800GTS, it will be a much better gaming system than let's say a E6600 and a 8600GTS. AARONRULZ1

I mean look at his benchmark, it's clearly just him making the 8600 sound better than it reall is.

"Oblivion - Ultra Quality Vsync 1280x1024 HDR "

WTF?

Vsync...

  • Inside Dungeon = 60-85fps
  • Outside = 40-70fps
NO SENSE MAKING MY HEAD ESPLODE.... frame rate is above 60fps.

Good for you then, but for the majority I'd say that isn't the case.

For each game I set it on whatever setting/resolution came close to 30fps, I guess because I dont mind 30fps,

then I played for a while, and wrote down the lowest/highest fps.

and the AVG is the fps it seemed to hang around on most offten.

The only reason I made the review is because I couldent believe it was that good. i thought it was suppose to be crap.

I wasnt even planning on buying a 8600, I went to the store to buy a x1950 and they were sold out, so i got the 8600gt instead, I dont think its the greatest card out there but i'm happy with it. now that I have it i'm also happy they were sold out of x1950's

Step the CPU up to a X2 4200+ or 4600+ (if possible), 200mhz more is worth $15 more.

Well it's fine, I've seen the benchmarks the X2 3800+ and 8800 paired together are still a solid configuration, plus recently I tried downlclocking my X2 4600+ to 2ghz to see if the performance would be much worse, but i didn't really notice anything, other than my 3dmark 06 score going down by some points.

- Drop the SATA cables.

- This memory is a lot better and the same price after rebate:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144062

- That motherboard isn't the best for overclocking, and since you're going with a low end AMD system, you'll need a stable motherboard to overclock with.

- Change the DVD-ROM to a DVD-RW (can burn DVDs)

- Seriously, dude. Get a cheaper card for that resolution and balance out your rig. An 8800GTS on 1024x768 is just ridiculous, especially when you're ona tight budget. Go look at the X1950 PRO, save some money for a new monitor and a new video card, then upgrade to DX10 when the next generation of DX10 cards come out.

-Agreed with SATA cables

-Meh, faster and not noticable. Not worth 20 bucks more, plus Geil suck. Not everyone does MIR.

-It's actually an amazing overclocker and has lots of overclocking features, and if you don't know how to overclock it has a stable automatic overclocking feature, it actually overclocked my X2 4600+ to 2.8ghz on its own, I'm proud of it. And I've gotten it to 3ghz stable on my own before but I need better cooling.

-Agreed

-X1950XT is the only thing I can suggest that's bellow the power of the 8800s.
