Is the 790i a must-get to play current games (CoD4, TF2) on high settings or will the 680i do fine? Also, will it make a difference if I will be using a single card instead of dual?

Also, is it worth the extra couple hundred for a GTX 280, or does the GTX 260 perform well enough?

1. Not its not necessary, a good $80-$90 P35/P45 motherboard will be so much cheaper. Unless your running at a high resolution and are really picky about settings, then just get single because ive seen so many people pop in another card when they needed it and it was pretty much outdatted or they could get a better card than both for cheaper

2. I havn't really heard much about those cards since it seems like the HD4850/4870 are a better value.

well the gtx 280 is great is it worth the extra idk, but the ati cards are a better value, but any of those cards will allow some great settings for games coming this year. The 4870x2 is gunna be a sweet little card, but I went for the gtx 280 and love it and can not complain

GTX 280 prices are coming down to the point where they are very reasonable. The 790i is very good, but would be significantly more expensive than a 680i build. If you got the 680i, you could probably get another video card with the money you save (on the mobo and memory), which would net you better performance.
