How much better is it to have 8 Gb ram than 4 Gb? Is it worth 600 dollars?
Haha, any comments?

It's cause DDR2 is dirt cheap, it's still not really needed it's just a lot of people saw others upgrading their RAM and now they think it's necessary. The big PC makers are doing the same adding quad cores and 4gb of RAM to general home use PCs.What is the opsession over more ram? Sence when was over 3 gig needed?

It's possible as your PC will just get lazy and stop bothering with the page file but there won't be any real performance increaseGood luck OCing with 8 gigs of ram. No it is not neccisary unless you run ALOT at once. Has anybody managed to use all 8 gigs of ram?

I'm having troubles getting my Phenom II x4 940 stable past 3.5 with 8GB of memory installed. I don't need it running that fast so I'm content with my 3.45GHz at the moment. I suppose at some point in time I'll just take out the extra 4GB and push this sucker higher. I have 8GB just because I can....4GB of it is for my little brother once he finally decides he's going to upgrade his computer....at this current rate, he might not and I'll just have an extra 4GB until I toss it or it actually becomes beneficial to have more then 4GB.Good luck OCing with 8 gigs of ram. I originally had only 2GB in my current system. It was built as a quick budget system for office work and website dev. but a good friend of mine didn't like me only a single 2GB stick and bought me 6 more o.O. I wasn't complaining but it does make OCing more difficult.Good luck OCing with 8 gigs of ram. No it is not neccisary unless you run ALOT at once. Has anybody managed to use all 8 gigs of ram?

Given that ram is cheap these days (except for high speed ddr3), I'd say go for it.....if :
A. Your running 64-bit os.
B. Your motherboard won't require you to underclock your memory to run with 8GB (yes this is a issue with cheaper motherboards)
If you meet both of these, then I say do it. 64-bit gaming will explode next couple years because Windows 7 is expected to do well, will contain both 32-64 in every retailbox (except windows basic), and because of ram prices and new motherboards allowing for 12-24GB ram on average, the it won't be long before software starts taking advantage of all that ram.
32-bit will be dead soon. The 4GB limitation is the nail in the coffin. Windows 7 Home Premium has a memory cap of 16GB (unless MS patches it out later), so I'm predicting that the new sweet spot will be 8-12GB within 3 years. If a 16GB limit is too low for some of you, I recommend you buy Windows 7 Pro.
wow. thanks guys. yeah, my gut tells me to go with 4. i was just wondering if 8 gives me anything spectacular.
i'm pinching pennies now, saving up for a new laptop. i wouldn't get a laptop, but i'm moving around a lot lately (college) and it's really better for me. i just want it to be able to play fun games too :)
