Gday everyone,

I have a slight issue, the other day i went out and bought ET:QW because i wanted a change from COD4,well i got home installed ra-ra-re downloaded the patch then tried to play, got into the game and it was really laggy and choppy so i thought my internet must be playing around. Hence i tried playing against bot's everything was still really laggy and choppy, so i was pretty devo. Now my question, could ET:QW be messing around because of my graphics card? I have the NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS, and i'm no pro when it comes to computers and cards, processors etc, so i don't know whats good and whats not. I personally came to the conclusion that if i can play COD4 perfectly fine with no choppyness how-come i cannot play ET:QW? Any help would be greatly appreciated, if it's my graphics card that is the problem could someone please recommend a decent, fairly priced graphics card that can run today's games fairly well, COD4, ET:QW etc.

Thankyou.

Lag is when you feel unresponsiveness in MP games, frame rate is another thing. And looks like you have frame rate problems.

Well, the 8400 GS is a pretty bad card to be honest, I have the ETQW and play it on a 8500 GT, and I wouldn't call it smooth, so try lowering the settings, specially the resolution, I found that the most demanding settings were:

Shadows, shaders, terrain detail.

Try lowering those and the resolution.

COD4 runs fine because it isn't actually demanding, and I guess that you are playing on the default settings.

The topic subject is HARDWARE.

The 8400 GS is more than merely "pretty bad", which would describe the 8500 GT. It is WORSE than either a 7300 GT or an X1300 Pro (and a lot worse than an HD 2400 XT).

The forum here is strictly SOFTWARE. so this is OFF-TOPIC.

You should get a new card. If you don't want to spend a lot of money an 8600GT XXX from Xfx would be an improvement. If you have more money to burn try an HD3850 or 8800gt

Actually, this isn't a hardware topic, to me it's not different than those "Can my computer run this game???"

If he was actually talking about temperature, OC'ing, etc. THAT would be a Hardware topic.

Listen to this man.

I'm saving money to buy a 8800GS.

The card arrived yesterday to my country, and is by far the best one out there.

Actually, this isn't a hardware topic, to me it's not different than those "Can my computer run this game???"

"Can a particular PC run a particular game" subjects are HARDWARE, and the pinned thread at the top is for that, even if it is Hardware. Any other threads on the subject started are supposed to be locked down.

Thankyou everyone your help is greatly appreciated, i'm going to go get a new card ASAP. Kiwi_1, i had no idea where to post this, so i am sorry, but it doesn't mean you have to have a go at everyone else. Once again thankyou everyone for your support. :D

EDIT: I now have to decide between the Asus Nvidia 8800GS 384MB PCI-E or the 8600GT XXX from XFX, any insight would help, sorry for all the questions, just very computer illiterate.

This goes to "PC Hardware", as already advised, including additions.
