So I'm upgrading my PC and I want to know which one will play better when playing crysis, assassin's creed, far cry 2 etc...

the 8600gt is a bit cheaper from what I've seen...

anyone who has an 8600gt how well it performs?

Without a doubt the X1950XT would pwn the 8600GT. Whiel the 8600GT has direct X 10 capabilities it is severly limited by its 128 bit interface. You will easily be able to run games like bioshock on high settings with the 1950XT (as long as the rest of your system is good decent).

Even the cheaper X1950pro would be a very good choice. If you are gonna buy now and not wait for the slim possibilty of further mid-range cards then go for the X1950XT or pro.

Buy a x1950xt for that price.

Will blow all the games @ high or max (Bioshock & World in Conflict & Medal of Honor Airborne)

I play that games on max with x1950xt, 1950pro will be close to my performence.

dont buy a gt.. why should u.. 8600gt is the smae price as a 1950pro and the pro is a LOT better then that crappy gt.

the 8600gt will be a slow card for DX10 support (heard of many ppl and without that support it almost look the same as DX9)...

I mean, if u want to game & a DX10 card the less u should buy is a 8800gts 320MB.

how about a Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 2600XT, 256Mb GDDR3, 128Bit, HDMI, Dual DVI, PCI-Express?

it costs less then a x1950XT and i can get itthe 512MB edition of the 2600XT... what do you think?

Well I had the same dilemna! An 8600 GT sells at 182$ but the X1950Pro at 200$. The difference in performance is huge!

Ati smoked the nvidia card in all benchmaks including COH,... buthe ATI does not support DX10.

On the other hand DX10 perf of the 8600 was much to desire(3 fps in Call of Juarez). I think u should wait for the release of the Gforce 9 series in early 2008 and get an 8800 GTS then which will be much cheaper. If u need it now and for games i would recommend the ATI.

If ur purpose is digital content(video , editing...)the 8600 offers the new features of improved HD quality etc...

So choose wisely...

The X1950 GT is a detuned card compared to the rest of the X1950s, which is why it's less expensive, however the 256 Bit Memory System still gives it a major advantage.

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=500&card2=513

And yet, one of the usual benefits of the wider memory bandwidth, being usefulness of VRAM past the 256 MB amount, is not as much of a factor, apparently. Some benchmarking has shown the 8600 GTS can use more than 256, and the GT is an overclockable part, right up to GTS speeds, it seems.

The HD 2600 cards are not so overclockable, and cannot benefit from more than 256 MBs of VRAM. They are just too slow.

so you're saying that i should get the x1950gt 256mb pci-e and not the HD 2600XT 256mb... what so bad about the x2600?

It's always that 128-Bit restriction compared to the full 256 Bits afforded by all of the X1950 versions. The 2600 has no chance against that.

The best card is 1950pro which you can get for around 150, 8600 GT is a good card and features unified shader and its DX10, the 8600GT scores around 4500-5000 on 3dmark06 while the 1950pro gets 5000-5300, so I dont know they are a lot more similar than the users here think, if you can pick up a 8600GT for a 100 bucks I would go that rout, if you want something to hold you over until 9 series. I think 1950PRO is around 150$ range so you can just overclock a 8600GT and get a similar performance while saving 50 dollars in the process, and yea 1950GT is worse than 8600GT.

If you are deciding between 8600GT and 1950GT than the 8600GT is better.

sorry for being such annoying but some people tell me it's better and some people tell me it's worse than the 8600gt... i just think that the 8600gt is just going to be a weak dx10 video card...

The X1950XT CANNOT MAX BioShock nor World in Conflict, just a heads up buddy.

World in Conflict isn't out yet. If you are a legal Beta Tester, you signed an NDA to participate.

The basic Minimum Requirements threshold is quite low for a late '07 release.

http://www.gamespot.com/event/download/world-in-conflict-demo/

Unless you are breaking the NDA's provisions, and have seen the actual game on that video card, I'd have to say that you are only making a WAG, or merely playing at fanboy stuff, and on that basis, I cannot agree.

P.S. (in Edit) Neither Krauser's, nor my own, data block areas are showing our Avatars. Wonder where they went?

Not only did I participate in beta, I did the alpha too and not only that but the demo has a benchmarking program built in. Fail moar?

EDIT: The only way it would be possible to max World in Conflict on an X1950XT would be on low resolutions, I would know -- I have two of them and they're XTX's.
