What makes the 7950GT so much better than the 8600GT? It seems that the clock speeds are much better on  the 8600. Plus it has DX10. The only thing the 7950 has over the 8600 is the memory interface. Are there some who think the 8600 is better? Or is it pretty unanimous that the 7950 is the better card? Sorry, I just like the DX10 feature but I guess DX10 isn't worth much if the games run too slow.

It's soo hard to make the choice. I can get either of these cards for $150.

The 8600GT is a great card for the price, its performance in games is pretty good for the amount your paying for it, and I'd choose it over the 7950GT because of the DX10 functionality, but think about what you want... The 7950 will give you better performance in DX9 games, and will probably suffice until DX10 gets into full swing, and I'll say like most people would, save the money and get an 8800GTS...you will be happier in the long run...

The memory interface makes all the difference in the world. It's the lane where the data travels through. You can have 1000MHz processing power for the GPU alone, but if that data can't be transported fast enough because there are only 2 lanes in the highway (sort to speak), it just sits there (traffic jam) and wait until it comes free.
