It's a Macbook Pro. Sorry it's been so long since I replied, I haven't had access to a pc. I'll PM you this message in case you are interested in buying the laptop.Yeah, it's a pretty decent laptop video card... should play FEAR pretty well.. maybe medium-high settings? Perhaps even better.
Just wondering, but laptop are you looking at?

I knew this was a good laptop, but I wanted to know if it could play newer games. Thanks for the replies.
If you want to know if it will run the next release like Crysis, the answer is: no way,you need more than that.
wtf are you talking about that card will run that game easy maybe not on super high settings but it will still run it not everyone can't live without playing everything on max that card should play that game on medium easy with probaly a few things on highIf you want to know if it will run the next release like Crysis, the answer is: no way,you need more than that.

i think it can run crysis i mean Crytek team said 3 year old comp can run Crysis. also if 8600 series doesn't run Crysis than there is something wrong wtih teh game cause no way are they gonna sell the game.
but he can't run the game on max setting he'll be able to play the game on medium setting at a good frame rate for sure thought if the CPU and ram is good.
um, no a 8600 could no problem run Crysis. If you want to know if it will run the next release like Crysis, the answer is: no way,you need more than that.

Medium easy??a few things on high??That card get 27fps on Call of Duty 2 at 1280x1024 and is Call of duty 2 not Crysis.
8600GT is only a slight faster than 7600GT and slower than 7900GS look at any benchmark you want. Look at a recent released game like LostPlanet, the card is strugling to play at medium ~20fps at 1024x768.

yeah wow it sucks at direct 9 games it should diffently do better on crysis and there's absolutely no way that game will get low settings if thats what your trying to say and lost planet is crap that game is such a bad port with lots of of bugs[QUOTE="dayaccus007"][QUOTE="mastershake575"][QUOTE="dayaccus007"]wtf are you talking about that card will run that game easy maybe not on super high settings but it will still run it not everyone can't live without playing everything on max that card should play that game on medium easy with probaly a few things on highIf you want to know if it will run the next release like Crysis, the answer is: no way,you need more than that.

like 8800Ultra: http://anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3029&p=3[QUOTE="mastershake575"][QUOTE="dayaccus007"][QUOTE="mastershake575"][QUOTE="dayaccus007"]wtf are you talking about that card will run that game easy maybe not on super high settings but it will still run it not everyone can't live without playing everything on max that card should play that game on medium easy with probaly a few things on highIf you want to know if it will run the next release like Crysis, the answer is: no way,you need more than that.

like 8800Ultra: http://anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3029&p=3 i really doubt its the cards fault for getting 30fps in call of juarezits defiently the games fault and poor programing and besides crysis is very well optimized[QUOTE="mastershake575"][QUOTE="dayaccus007"]wtf are you talking about that card will run that game easy maybe not on super high settings but it will still run it not everyone can't live without playing everything on max that card should play that game on medium easy with probaly a few things on highIf you want to know if it will run the next release like Crysis, the answer is: no way,you need more than that.

I dunno about Call of Duty 2 never played it, but on FEAR at 1024* 768 resolution with all settings set to max a 8600GT gets about 55fps. On Lost Planet at all settings max except HDR(set to medium) and AF(set to 4 i think), i got 20fps forgot what resolution I used though, so its certainly not as bad as the 20fps on medium setting as you claimed. If i turned down couple more settings down to medium, FPS should jump up to 30. All the above "tests" was done on my Pentium D 820, 1 GB PC2-4200, 8600GT computer( i always find it odd anandtech always get slightly worse FPS than me in their 8600GT tests using x6800 CPU and "performance" RAMs)
8600GT is not slower than 7900GS at all benchmark, its always faster than 7900GS in Oblivion, Stalker, Rainbow Las Vegas, in some of them significantly faster than a 7900GS.
Nobody can be 100% sure at anything. So i would suggest you to stop bashing 8600 series which are decent cards for mid-range. If its power is too low for you you can always get 8800 Ultra SLI. Its your choice what to buy. IMO 8600 will run crysis on med-high settings whit decent framerate at 1280x1024. 8600 actually has faster shaders than 8800 series has so that means its geometry shaders are faster and that in some cases it will maybe perform even better than G80. In some rare cases, where a lot would depend on geometry shaders when games will start to use geometry shaders. That was reply to dayaccus.

my 8600GT plays all my current games just fine at max settings on 1280*1024 resolution, so its certainly not the piece of crap some people on the board adamantly claims.
for a notebook GPU, it's probably about the best DirectX 10-supporting GPU currently available. A 7950GTX Go would still be faster, but the 8600M GT has a lot going for it, and would likely grant you better battery life than the 7950.
It also depends on the resolution of the monitor you'll be playing the games on. A 1440x900 display like the MacBook Pro would actually give that 8600M GT (256MB) some good staying power and should be able to play games reasonably well for a solid year, if not two or three.
I know if I wasn't already saving up for my own car, I'd be getting that mid-priced MBP real quick.
[QUOTE="dayaccus007"]If you want to know if it will run the next release like Crysis, the answer is: no way,you need more than that.el_carlSo your saying to run any new games you need a top of the line gpu from the newest series?I guess he assumes that Crytek is coding Crysis in the same way that Microsoft coded FSX. Even now, you'd need a time machine to finally get a computer that is going to be able to run FSX on maximum in-game settings.
Well i found this thread and it looks like it needs a bump, i'm looking into buying a laptop for gaming, since i'm on the road alot and can't have my 360 with me. So Will the 8600 GT run crysis, age of conan at med-high setting with a constant 30fps? Any opinions? And I would like opinions from people with the cards playing games like WoW, Vangaurd, Supreme Commader, etc, and tell me there xperince with it, like other the odd Hick-up, was it decent?
Do u think the card will last 3-4 years? even if it has to play games on low-med settings?
-Thanks in advance for knowledgeable posts ;)

Um not to be trolling but why'd you switch it to a game like Crysis when he's talking about F.E.A.R.
I'm sure he wants DX9 for a while....

Random__Guy
I doubt sli 8800ultra's will last 3-4 years.
lol.. well sure not at max setting...i have only gone thro 2 computers since i was 8...4 years on each computer so that makes me 16...but i'm not actually (i'm 17) my computer just broke and i'm on my brothers...but that 4 year old one could run WoW at medium with a decent fps of 24, its stats were like 1.8 ghz processor, 512 ram and some gpu that was the best back in 04...so i expect say an 8800 sli to last 4 years on medium settings to boot, sure u won't get 60 FPS but who cares...anwyays... will 8600m gt (laptop 8600, not at all like its desktop cousin...this one is actually a top of line mobile gpu..i think.) Thats why i'm asking, according to its stats, it is a top of the line card, but i hear all these things like 8's series mobiles won't be able to run cryis at low even, and that lost planet is a slide show on it and that 8600 doesn't even match 7600..but ummm yeah...some real world tests now show that is good...but that is just CoD 2 where it has 60 fps on average...but cod 2 is so to speak old now, how does the 8600m Gt stand up to future games like crysis? (yeah i think repeated myslef alot there...w/e i'm staying up late researching laptops..and ain't to cohereant atm...) hehe
8600M GT is hands down the best card you could get for a 15.4" notebook. It will run Crysis at probably medium settings at a good res.
All the people talking about "OMG IT ONLY GETS 3 FPS IN CALL OF JUAREZ TEH FAIL" need to realize that this is not an issue with the graphics cards - this is an issue with DirectX 10 and the implementation of DX10 in the games. Playing the same games through DirectX9 yields an entirely different experience. The DX10 will have to be improved as time passes.
