how futureproof is the 8800 GT? lookin around a bit it seems its close to the GTX performance wise. anyone whos got one care to give me couple of benchmarks :D ?

i can get a pre-built system (i know building from scratch is cheaper.etc) quadcore Q6600(2.40GHz) 3 gig RAM and a 8800 GT with all accessoriesfor £650, not bad me thinks. but swapping the 8800 GT for a 8800 GTX increases it by £240, that aint worth it right.

The 8800gt is a good card but if you wanna make a good deal you should wait for a new geforce 9 series. Than you will be good for a 1 or 2.

i have 8800 GT factory OC'd. it's a great card indeed. can max out every game i have (Bioshock, COD4, UT3), except Crysis. i guess you can easily handle games of 2008 with it.

3DMark06 score = 10000 and something. don't remember the exact score.

rig: AMD X2 6000+, 3GB DDR2 @ 800Mhz, BFG 8800 GT OC2

edit: and yes, forget about 8800 GTX. get 8800 GT or the new 8800 GTS 512MB, or if you have some money to spare, wait for the 9-series coming early next year.

i'm 99% sure it's gonna be worth the wait, but it's gonna cost you, and if you're in a hurry, just get 8800 GT. you can always sell it afterwards, and get yourself a new 9-card.

on the subject of the 8800GT, i'm about to update my graphics card in order to run...........you guessed it............crysis... and need a bit of advice. I can either get a normal 8800GT for £180, an oveclocked 8800GT for £190 OR an overclocked BFG8800 GTS 640MB from ebay which is currently at £160 but will probably go up to 180+

is it worth me paying a bit more for an OC'd 8800GT or if the GTS remains under £190 should i go for that.

any advice greatly appreciated

Exactly, but newegg has the evga 320 8800gts for $220 right now, and that makes it a great buy for the money. You can also use the stepup program to move to the 9 series later with some extra $.

Step up program is only for EVGA and it only lasts for a limited 60 or 90 days. Who knows when 9 series will be released. And you can get a 8800 GT if your lucky for as cheap as $250 to $270.. it is worth that extra money for the 320mb ram.. GT is so much more powerful then that cards pecially the 320mb.. I would know sense I own a GTS 320mb version.. Then again it really dpeends.. Because in the end 320mb plays awesome on every game EXCEPT Crysis.. So it really just depends..
