just imagine what they can do with that G92... 8800 GT is just a taste of what's coming next. it's a single-slot card that's almost as powerful as 8800 GTX.
when they push G92 to a dual-slot monster-sized beast, it's gonna kill everyone and everything :D
i seriously dont think the 9xxx cards will be coming out this year.. i might be terribly wrong but my theory is based around this:
1) the 9 series cards will wupport pci2....there arent any motherboards tht i knw of coming out this year which support pci2
2) the 9 series card will bottleneck 99% of all the cpus out there (from what i heard)
3) the only game which is really hard to max out is Crysis...releasing a card just fo one game doesnt sound rite.
4) nvidia doesnt usually releasy two different series cards in less than 3 months. for example 8800gt and 9xxx
5)even if intel does release a new processor and nvidia releases this card and suddenly there are new mobo which support pci2...how many ppl will buy all of this?
i am not saying tht it is impossible for all of this new technology to come out but i think it wont happen next month or the month after tht. new years eve sounds like the best time they could do it but even tht is hard to say.....far cry 2 will be coming out early next year so releasing a gpu then will make more sense. plus intel is releasing their new processors next year so new mobos will be made to support the new cpu and from what i knw there are new mobos made coz of the release of the new processors.. once again i might be wrong and nvidia does release their new cards next month then i will be realllllllllly shocked

Every single one of your points are wrong...
1) There are a few pci-e2.0 boards out right now, with quite a few more coming out before the end of the year. Plus a pci-e2.0 card works in pci-e1.1
2) Practically impossible, if you are playing at any normal resolution with high settings...
3) I didn't realize new GPUs are only be used on one game, G80 was released for NO game.
4) Hmmm.... they have in the past. G80 = Nov | 7900GS=Sept Yeah, I guess it is more like 2 months...
5)There are always people that buy the latest and greatest. Head on over to XtremeSystems.
BTW- Penryn is being launched Nov. X38 and X48 is coming out now and Nov as well.
Phenom is being launched Nov, along with HD3800 series and AMD's new chipsets, RD790/RS790/RD780 etc. which will also support pci-e2.0.
Please do some research before you just post your uneducated opinion.
wow i never heard of tht. so this could mean tht there is a higher probabilty tht nvidia might unleash their beast in november. but wat i cant take in is the fact tht they havent made it official yet. i dont believe thtthey will inform us a week b4 the release. usually they tell us a month in advance. it givs us some time to save updmn_fox

x48 out on Nov really!?!?! I could've sworn I saw it somewhere saying it was coming out near Jan or Feb 08
Im in a similar position.
Im buying an Aurora pc. The choice is buy an ultra, buy dual 8800 GT's or wait for the 9 series. All indications suggest a Nov/dec release and a reduction in the GT prices sort of confirm this. Regardles, Im leaning towards the dual 8800. You have to look at compatibilty issues and the drivers etc. There will be certain teething problems as experieced withv the 8800 series. On the other hand though , the new intels are coming out at about the same time, so core cpu's should drop in price. Performance wise I would think dual 8800 would out preform a 9 series, but who knows?
The 9 series will be much more expensive and 8800gt even cheaper and more attractive. I will probably go for the 8800gt as soon as possible.

I WILL!! lol i need to update, its time, my cpu is laggin like crazy now, idk why (athlon x2 dual core 4400) imm only on the internte and the "CPU usage" on the task manager is jumpin to like 4 to 30 to 80 randomly, and crysis was dying when i tried it earlier lol

Sorry to lasy for quotes, but according to tests made on crysis, what really matters is a good gpu and a descent cpu, ( yours would be just fine). When they were testing crysis, only 30 to 40 percent of their average core 2 duo was being used...
According to Crytek, there is an announcement coming in mid-November on new nVidia cards.Manly-manly-man

lies. the 8800 series does support the 10.1 updates. read up on them
the only difference between dx10 and dx10.1 is that they make some features mandatory (like every dx10.1 spec hardware NEEDS those feature) the 8800 series already has them options.

Have you seen the performance 8800's are getting in DX10 games(CoH, WiC, Crysis) even if it can "support" 10.1 do actualy think DX10.1 games would be anything but extremely unplayable on them?... DX10 is the LIE! better performance my ***.
