First off, I just wanted to say thanks in advance. This hardware forum has been a great place for me to learn over the years.

Anyways, my question is this...Will a jump from my current 8800GT 512 (OC'ed to some 630 or something around there) to a 4850 512 yield anything really noticible, or do you think that it would be better to just wait for another year or so to upgrade when new cards are out.

I've been playing Mass Effect/Assassin's Creed/Gears of War and some Crysis on it mostly, and the first 3 games I can max out anyway. Crysis is just a #$@#! on any card still, so I run it on High DX9 at 720p (I play on a 1080p 42" monitor)

Just wanted to get your thoughts as I want to do something to my rig, but can't really make a decision and if you say "it's not worth it" that'll be good enough for me to be comfortable and just wait out another gen or so on the video cards. Thanks again!

You cant compare the clockspeeds at all.

8800GT and HD4850 is two whole diffrent cards numbers don't mean jack when speaking of Nvidia compared to ATi.

My thougths is that your card is more than able to play games for awhile ahead, stay with the GT.

So "it's not worth it" to exchange the card at all, but what are your other spec?

Keep your 8800GT. The 4850 isn't too much better and it can't max Crysis either.

Crysis is a computer killer, for the most part. Reason why you're having issues running it with high settings is due to the resolution you have to use to play the game at 1080p. If you had two 8800GTs running SLI, you'd probably easily get away with running at your monitor's native resolution with the settings maxed.

Like the others have said, just stick with your current card because it works just fine for any games out (aside from Crysis games) and most any new game coming out.

the 4850 is better than 8800 gt, infact is equivalent to 9800gtx, but it runs a tad hot.

palit offers a 4850 with custom fans that works really well.

go for it, you won't be disappointed .

i agree, in all honesty what you would get is this..

you would be able to play some games better.

while some not quite as well.

not really worth the change, if your gonna upgrade, i recommmend saving money for the gtx280.

a 8800gt to 4850 is a dumb upgrade that u will only see little performance boost. getting a second 8800gt or upgrading to a 4870/gtx260 or better would be a better upgrade that u would see a decent sized performance boost.
