i was all excited for my 8800gt it was a big step up from my old gpu. I got it today from ups and hooked it up but it wouldnt work. The fan turns on but windows wont boot and i dont see activity from my monitor.

I have a p35 mobo and a 600 watt psu so i shouldnt be having this problem. I even took it to geek squad and have them check it and they couldnt figure out what was wrong with it either.

The thing cost me $290 and i get nothing. Everytime im excited about a purchase it always ends in disapointment.

You should see BIOS mobo boot up and says stuff like -Del- open BIOS. IF it doesn't make it to that point then your probably have a dead card.

*TEST* Put your old card back in. Start up windows (see if it works). Uninstall current drivers. Install 8800GT drivers. Shut down. Remove old card. Place new card in. Boot.

If it doesn't work after that, then somethings probably wrong.

Lmao at the failing. Either way, things happen, hopefully when you get your new one back from eVGA that one won't be messed up too.

so if i download the 8800gt driver for vista 64 do you think it will work? I didnt think they would do that because what if you built a brand new comp? How would it be possible to even get boot windows with no gpu installed anyways.

Your CPU does the work. That's the whole point of a GPU; to take the load off the CPU. I suggest you do what everyone else said and install the new drivers.

Are you kidding me? You blame it on the manufacturer (a reputed one at that) instead of the shipping? And you didn't just think bad luck? And you took it to geeksquad? You don't deserve that card.

If you can't see BIOS, then it is not a driver problem.

I would check the simple things 1 more time. Make sure it is in slot correctly. Make sure you have power hooked up to it.

If it still don't work, send it back to where you got it from for a replacement. I understand this is a pain and it sucks, but everyone who buys PC components enough will go through this, just hope it don't happen again for a while.

Jeez, must've pissed someone off in a past life =\ I wonder if it isn't sitting in the slot just right. That heatsink runs all along the card, is everything in order? Nothing obstructing, crooked heatsink, cap, ex-wife? To try and elicit a response, attempt firing it up without the PCI-E 6-pin plugged in.

my monitor has a blank screen. When i try to run the computer with the 8800gt in

when i plug in the pic-e 6pin power adapter i know the card is getting power because the fan is running

I guess its just a problem in the manufactoring process. The demand for the 8800gt from evga was high that maybethey rushed my product and screwed it up somehow.

Im just going to send it back. Its not a big deal as long as i get a replacement card that works.

The thing im upset about is how much it will end up costing me. Almost $300 now :( this is supposed to be a $200-$250 card. Its just been a bad month. I had my amplifier stolen that cost $300.I was upsetso i purchaseda better one that cost $330 and it was so powerful that it blew the rubber surround on a piece of expensive equipment. So i sold it and used the money to go buy the 8800gt, but now this doesnt work.

You guys probably dont care so im not gona bore you anymore, but i have it taken care of. They will hopefully send me a replacement.

Quite a lot of motherboards these days have an "Everything is ok" LED on the board somewhere. If your mothboard has one of these, then this might help. Otherwise just ignore me.

When the 8800GT is plugged in with the power connected, is the LED lit? If it is off then the motherboard isn't getting power, the LED should be on even with the computer turned off but just connected to a power source. If the LED is flashing this usually means that something is not connected right and the system won't start in fear of causing damage. This fail safe is built into a lot of motherboards (most that I've dealt with recently anyway).

Have fun

You are having a really bad streak of luck :( sorry to hear the card was DOA.

Thats one of the unfortunate things about ordering things online, its a pain in the ass to return them if they come broken... especially if you're dealing with a poor retailer.

Since the clowns at Best buy couldn't get it working either, its definately defective if it won't work in another PC also... damn eh.

just out of curiosity, is your computer overclocked?

have you tried perhaps resetting the CMOS after installing the card, just for the sake of trying everything?
