I've still been waiting on upgrading from my 6800GT, which is really starting to show its age now.
Anyways, in my opinion, I'd just hold onto the 7900 a little longer and see how the 9 series affects the price, and, if you got the patience, wait for the 'budget' 9xxx series to come out and see how it comes with the 8800GT in terms of speed and price.
Anyone else?atst007
stick with the 7900 it still pretty good
i would wait for the 9 series to come out which is like march i think

I am going to upgrade to DX10, I'm not sticking with the 7900.if you know your going to upgrade then why do you post asking if you should or shouldnt
all im saying is that the 7900 still has some kick to it and ou shouldnt buy the 8800gt as it will be obsalete in march
even u waited till 9 series.are u going to get the 1st batch or wad?oem versions?
if ur getting oem version might as well get optimized 8800gt
and are we talk about 9800 or 9600?9600 isnt as good tho so i assume we are looking at 9800.
thats my opinion.i hope 9800 has dual slot cooler and dont have high temp issues like 8800gt when first came out.
Get the 8800GT and EVGAs 90day step-up program. That way you have until the beginning of may to use your card then you can upgrade for a 9xxx series, which it should be out by then. It wouldn't be like nvidia to not release anything for 6 months. They're always out to make money. Swiftstrike5Seconding this.
well I can tell you the 8800gt is much much better than my old 7800gt. if your looking for a card in 8800s price range then don't wait for the 9 series. the 9 series is g92 based and the cheapish 9600gt is considerbly slower than the 8800gt.
so if you not getting the 9800gtx get the 8800gt, there wont be anything comparable for a while and it can run basicly every game maxed.

what you don't relise is the geforce 9 series is basicly like the radeon hd38xx they are all 8 series with 65nm, nothing new. it wont be till the 10 series there is anything special
You can grab a 8800gt which which excellent performance per price. Price around $230
Wait for the 9800GX2 which is two 8800gts in sli. Rumored price around USD$500-700
Wait for the 9600gt which is a g92 card cut in half, will be cheaper than the 8800gt and also give less performance. Rumored price around $150-200
Those are the 9 series that are releasing on the first quarter of 2008 (9500gt release date to be announced soon).
as people have stated....go for the EVGA 8800gt with the step up...oh and the 8800gt will NOT be obsolete in march
Evz0rz
sure, it won't be obsolete in march as well as previous value card 8800gts 320mb won't be obsolete till march too. Heck even my x1950pro won't be obsolate in march
I'll tell you what I'm doing.
Rumors are that the first of GeForce 9 is coming out in Q2 of this year.
I'm buying a GTS 512 in March and if/when GeForce 9 cards come out in Q2, I'm using the EVGA Step Up program to get it. With that program, you only pay the difference between the card you bought and the new card you're buying.
You can have both.
Of course, GeForce 9 may not come out in Q2. But do you really want to wait more than 3 months to upgrade if it doesn't anyway? Even if it doesn't, you can sell your GeForce 8 card on eBay and get back most of the money you paid for it.
Many people here seem to be of the opinion that the 8800GT is the best deal. And it is a good deal. However, the GTS 512 matches up with a GTX and Ultra in many ocassions and only costs 50USD more than the 8800GT.
Here is a review of it showing how it does in a game like Crysis.

Look at the other benchmarks in that review as well, as they all show how great the GTS 512 is.
