You don't need more performance. A 8800GT can run Crysis on High. Even if a 4870 was twice as good, no game needs that much power.

only if you can sell your current card and put that towards the HD4870, but i would upgrade, it depends on if you have the spare cash or not.

i would say it depends, do you have games that run slowly or you want better image quality?
because i have a x1950xt 512mb, and was thinking about upgrading but then i dont see much reason for it, after all, all my games run pretty well (i have a 1440x900 monitor) and crysis on medium is 50fps on my machine, but upgrading for one game? not yet.

So you don't NEED more performance anyway. Wait for a game that'll push the graphics barrier.

Speak for yourself. I answered his question, you didn't.

IF yuo got a enough strong powersuply go for 8800GT SLI IT much better then a Single HD4850
If not want to consume over 700 WATS : then go for the HD4850 Sli & Tri sli are much better then acuatl crossfire & Tri fire & quad fire Option Quad fire = only X2 Like 3870X2 it a Weak Rival to Gx2 That as no power =)

If you have anything higher then a 3870 the upgrade isn't really worth it. Unless you are some kinda freak who wants 5-10 more FPS when most games run 50-60fps already.. One or two games should not make you want to upgrade.. Your 8800GT has PLENTY of life left. I'd wait unless you can sell it.

Anyone with a HD 3870, 9600GT, or a 8800GT should not seek out upgrades yet.. as it just aint worth it.. I'd wait for 6-12 months before a new card will really be any difference.

With only a handful of crap-tastic games that can even push these cards to the limit its just not worth it.

his motherboard isn't quite SLi capable so he'd need a new motherboard and probably PSU too. Another 8800GT for SLi was a first thing that came in mind when i was reading his post

Well, 4850 is better than 8800GT, but I also think it isn't worth the extra $200 if you allready have 8800GT. But if you really want to upgrade then why not a 4870 or GTX 260? These cards are waaaay better than 8800GT and doesn't cost that much (about $300). Why would you buy something that is only a bit faster, if you can buy something that is two times faster for not much extra cash?

Yes, but for the long run, it will be good.

id reccomend a 4850 for now if you have a budget. if you want to go even better get two 4850s for around 400, great deal.

But you can still buy it later, maybe a better card will come out.

If you want to upgrade from 8800GT, I say wait for the 4870X2 to come out. Shouldn't be long before it does, and is said to be around %15-20 stronger than a 4870 crossfire setup. How's that for an upgrade!

I already need it. I just don't have the $$$$ to buy them. But then again, I'd probably get a pair of GTX 280's instead. :P
